E.on 2 year tariff withdrawn? Problems with E.on website.

Hi. After much thinking and agonising...have at last switched (ie. Pressed the button...) from Utility Warehouse to E.on. Using the Cheap Energy Club. I too went on the E.on website and chose the apparently better of the 2 options for my quote. This brought up a figure which was about £3 less over the year than my current deal. Phoned their sales dept. Spoke to a very helpful lady who explained that the 'E.on Saver Plus fixed 1 yr v5' tariff is only available to new customers applying online via a comparison website. So I went back to the CEC link and am crossing my fingers. My husband is very sceptical about the huge amount we are told we will save - but my maths reckons it's about right... I'll let you know!
Meanwhile, Malcolm, is there anything else I can do to ensure a painless switch?
And - will there be a way of continuing our current system with UW of phoning (/emailing?)
our meter readings in monthly, so that rather than the 'monthly average DD' , we can pay for our actual energy use each month? No smart meter here yet.0 -
@squirrel16
E.ON have a website where you get enter readings when you want and also generate a bill if you wish at the same time. (I think they limit you to 104 meter readings a year, I input my readings on a monthly basis normally)
The website also has a direct debit manager which allows you to adjust the DD by up to 20% if you have an upto date meter reading.0 -
Thank you, that's very helpful. Does that mean that you can alter the DD from the annual average to a month by month amount ? Eg. We like everyone else use more gas in the winter than the summer. Not so much seasonal difference with electricity, apart from lighting but that doesn't use much anyway... So current monthly figure estimated by E.on is £99.00. In the months that we have used less than that, we can reduce DD by 20%. Similarly in October say we can increase by 20%., and then again in Jan. If needed to keep pace with usage?0

Hello Squirrel16 and welcome to the Forums.
Glad our advisor was able to help. As you've applied for a Saver Tariff through the CEC, we'll receive details from MSE and will be in touch towards the end of the 14 day cooling off period. We'll confirm the tariff details and ask for meter readings. If you let us have these, it'll help keep things accurate and speed up things a little. Provided you register with our website, you'll be able to pop them online.
It usually takes about two and half weeks to switch. We'll send the readings we use to open our account to the old supplier. They'll use the same readings to close their account and issue their final bill. This makes sure the same energy is only charged once. The readings go through a third party who checks they're in line with past usage at the property. There are also other third parties like the energy distributors, meter readers, national databases who we tell about the changed circumstances.
You can certainly continue to send us meter readings monthly. Just pop them online as above. Bills are sent quarterly but you can issue your own through the Real Time Billing Tool on our website. When you enter readings, you'll have the option of viewing the resulting balance or actually issuing your own bill. Choose 'request a bill' and it'll be available online within 24 hours. The only time this option won't be available is if you're in the billing window. For quarterly billed customers, this is open 14 days either side of the next bill date. The first set of readings entered inside this window automatically results in a bill.
We offer a Variable Direct Debit. This collects payment in full from your bank each time a bill is raised. There aren't any lower daily standing charges with this payment method. These are only available with a Monthly Direct Debit and are worth about £35 per fuel per year. Alternatively, you can pay each bill by debit/credit card (online if you wish), at a bank, Post Office, PayPoint or PayZone. Or by cheque.
You can also choose to have paper bills but won't receive the discount for paperless billing. This is worth £5 per fuel per year.
Welcome to E.ON Squirrel16 and hope this is answers your questions. Let me know if you need any further details as happy to help.

Hello gsmlnx and thank you for letting us have your readings so regularly. Online, you can enter up to 12 sets of readings every 3 months. After this and if needed, they'll have to be phoned/emailed through and we'll enter them manually.

Hello Squirrel16 and thought it might help if I give you some information about our Monthly Direct Debits.
They look to spread the cost of usage as evenly as possible over a full year. They're based on current prices and past usage. A significant change to either usually triggers a request to alter the monthly payments. The aim is to achieve as near as possible to a zero balance by the annual review. At the annual review, any credit over a fiver is automatically refunded. A debit balance is included in the ongoing arrangement and spread up to the next review.
To help keep things on track we review the arrangement every 3 months but, if necessary, only look to change the amount at the annual and mid-point reviews. At the other times, we'll advise (usually on our bills) if we think the amount needs to alter but leave it to the customer to make any changes.
The online tool gsmlnx mentions is the Direct Debit Manager. This gives customers more control over the arrangement including being able to change the monthly amount to better suit different circumstances. Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected.
Hope this helps Squirrel16. There's more information about both the payment arrangement and the Direct Debit Manager on our website.

@Malc (E.ON)
My maths was wrong as I was thinking about 2 readings a month over a year! (Don't know how I got 104 from that!) From your statement, it is 4 a month (or nearly weekly)0 -
Morning gsmlnx.
That's right, customers can enter up to 12 sets of readings over a 3 month period or about one set per week. Anything over this would need to be done manually by one of our advisors.

so nigh on a month since all but two tariffs withdrawn. Checked last night and only two showing for us (ironically the link is find the best deal for you :rotfl: ) but the two tariffs listed are significantly higher than current v19 tariff. Have been with eon for approx 10 years and had our fair share of issues both technical and customer service (far more of the latter). Not saying the competition will be any better but looks like a switcheroo is finally upcoming for us now for a better deal. Ultimatley with the issues we have had over the years and the way they were dealt with I just don't trust them as a company anymore.0

Hello Spooky_uk and sorry we've lost your trust.
You're right, at the moment we've only the two tariffs available as shown on our website. These are our standard plan and a 1 year fix. The review I mentioned earlier in this thread is ongoing. As of today, I've no timescale for when this will be completed.
Sorry, too, you've had technical and customer service issues. Also, that I'm unable at this point to say anything more about our products.
