.com sites - can they be trusted

I have started looking for flights and hotels for August 2017 in Canada.

But many of the websites are saying already: ''only two seats left'' or ''only 3 rooms left'', etc..

Can this be genuine or a ploy to get you to make a booking.

they generally refer to "....left at that price / ....in that fare bucket"
simple enough to check with flights that say 2 seats left....try checking for 3 seats and it should give a higher fare for all 3 as all fares on a single booking need to be the same.
As airlines use yield management systems it is not guaranteed that all subsequent seats will be of a higher fare once the last 2 at that fare are taken....the lower fare bucket may be reintroduced if flights are selling slow, but if you are traveling during school holidays the likelihood is they will continue to rise as the lower fare buckets sell out

I'd be careful with that moneysavingexpert.com one.

Test it by trying to book eight seats

Don't use .com websites if you want important information such as Visa, Passport or Health requiremens. Use official .gov websites which should be kept up-to-date.

Be careful with airline wesites too, as there are a lot of look-alikes on the net.

I think there are issues with the likes of booking.com when looking well in advance. They often show sold out or 'selling fast' only to find they have more rooms months later at the same price.
It's probably down to how many they take off the hotel or are allocated early on but it gives a false impression all the same.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • Yes it's a ill guised ploy..I find booking.com really bad for it...I just ignore it and book when I want for a price I'm happy with and ignore it like most other forms of advertising

From personal experience with flights and hotels, it usually means x left at that price. I have seen prices go up after seeing this message earlier many times.
