MMD: Should David and Victoria pocket the pizza?

  • If it costs Pizza Hut around 25p to make a pizza (I heard this from a manager around 10 years ago, so it may now be around 35p?) then Victoria is going to have to stuff around 20 full pizzas into her handbag to make a dent in Pizza Hut's profits.

So next time you see somebody sneaking a slice into a napkin don't be too hard on them.

Although probably unstated, 'all you can eat' implies 'all you can eat here and now'. Morally therefore she shouldn't take it home - IF however you have a hate thing about Pizza Hut, or whoever, and want to get one over on them, then unless the small print is more specific why not take home (and freeze) enough to feed the family for the rest of the month?
  • I think it's a bit of a grey area really - maybe it's okay to take a couple of slices, but not the equivalent of two pizza's, perhaps. I'd be inclined to ask - maybe choosing a more relaxed looking member of staff ;)
  • I've been in a Pizza Hut where they actually offered to put it in a box for me!

If she put it on her plate then asked to take it home, it wouldn't be stealing.

  • I first saw this in Florida, years ago, there was unlimited refills of garlic bread and salad, the table next to us asked for both to be refilled and then immediately asked for a doggy bag, we were stunned, the staff however, didn`t blink.
I would n`t do it, but it does n`t bother me that people do, if Pizza Hut don`t like it, they can sort it out, I hardly think they would care as what ins`t eaten goes in the bin anyway:rotfl:
  • This is an intresting topic, on the same consept as should small thin people who have bags overweight pay for excess baggage on a plan when the next person in the line is overweight and is twice + their weight.

We as always dont know all the circumstances on Martins morral topics so it is difficult to give a full response.

Perhapse the person in question can not eat as much as others, perhapse they just want value for money.

In America this would be done and no one would feel guilty.

I see no harm in it myself, it is not theft at all but being libral with the offer.

Unless she has a very large bag she will not be able to take much.

Of course, American restaurants largely rely on the fact that the raw ingredients are pretty cheap, so they can afford to be generous with it, but staff wages are low and they depend on tips, so the staff will bend over backwards to oblige customers in the hope of getting a better tip. When on holiday I've made packed lunches during the breakfast buffet, and I don't really think there's anything wrong with it. Yes, it may be all you can eat while on the premises, but you'd need to have a lot of people doing it to affect the profits. The real issue is why would you eat at Pizza Hut buffet? Nasty, poor quality, greasy grub!

Victoria is a p!key tart - David should dump her for a girl with more class!
I think that was a nasty comment, Foxy.
I have never done it, but I am able to see people who do this in a better light. I think perhaps I might be more inclined to so myself, if I could bring myself to do so with out any embarrassment.
If Pizza Hut itself doesn't have a problem with this, as I can see from some their staff's comments, then I do not see why we should have any problems. Pizza Hut is a private company, able to do what it wants. And if it thinks this practice is not commercially viable to them, they would probably make enough efforts to put a stop. As it is the only people who would go to Pizza Hut and use this offer, would likely be after value for money. And if Pizza Hut would be too strong on them, they would probably go elsewhere.
It's not like Victoria is trying to rob the government or the country, which belongs to all of us.
