Final payment to ISP (Tiscali)

I have now migrated from Tiscali to ADSL24. smile.gif

I received an e-mail from Tiscali regarding my final payment. Please see the relevant part below.

Your final payment will therefore be in October. In October you will be debited a normal full monthly payment. Around the 23rd October, you will receive a credit note, detailing a refund from 8th September - 30th September. A refund cheque will then be issued. I realise that this might seem an inconvenient way to process accounts, but it is easier for Tiscali to take full monthly payments and then refund any money owing, rather than to try and calculate correct refunds before the payment is taken from your account/credit card.

I cannot see anywhere in the T+C where this is specified and I am not happy with Tiscali doing this. Ok, its convenient for them but so what, they didnt do me any favours. Plus I am out of pocket for phone calls to their useless CS in India. I gave Tiscali 30 days notice of cancellation so they have had plenty of time to calculate my final payment - which I would settle by cheque.

I have heard that many organisations do this. Has anyone tried to cancel a Direct Debit to an ISP and did you have any success?

  • This sounds like utter rubbish. I'd cancel the DD at your bank and leave Tiscali to chase the payment.

  • Yes, that is my natural inclination. I do not owe Tiscali any favours.

However the DD is actually coming from my Credit card. I had heard somewhere that it is not as straightforward to cancel such an arrangement. I will contact my card providers but I decided to sound out MSErs first
  • I am in a similar situation with Pipex, where I am wishing to cancel my service with them but they are trying to charge me for fees which are not stated in the T's&C's of my contract with them. The DD is going through my current account, so I have easily been able to cancel it.

    Good luck!
