Engine oil level too high. Should I worry?

Options
Hey everyone

So I just bought a Yaris T sport 04 and I have checked the oil and its above the Full mark by ~1 cm.:(
I did not check when I bought it as they did the MOT on that day and passed with no advisory.
I drove the car for like 150-200 miles already motorway/city/high speed with no issue and no smoke.
I wanted to take it for a service but unfortunately eurocarparts send me wrong items...so I have to wait for the parts.
But until then should I worry? Should I use it? what could happen?
Thank you.
Best regards

1cm probably won't hurt, especially as you have done 200 miles already.

Far too much oil can damage the engine when the pistons collide with it, and amongst other things can cause the excess to be pushed out through oil seals and breathers, and can block the catalyst if it gets into the cylinder bores.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

When did you check the oil, when the car was cold or after a journey and was the car level?

I wouldn't be too concerned, especially if you're not seeing any smoke.
  • The car was cold. I just like to use it for a few days for like 10-15 miles a day until the parts arrive and do a service.
    Keep the revs low too

No point worrying about any damage that might already have been done.
Just take it to any old garage and get the oil changed. Then do the rest of the work later

I don't see how slight over filling would increase the oil pressure. That will be determined by the pressure relief valve. Gross over filling to the extent that big ends dipped into the oil in the sump would be another matter. Should be OK until you get around to changing it.

Excellent choice of car the Yaris T Sport. I use to have one of these bad boys myself in my younger days.
As for the slightly overfilled oil, it will cause the oil pressure to increase and potentially damage seals and gaskets. If you can get a siphon and just take some oil out.

As for the parts, make sure they are correct and use good quality oil. I use to use Fuchs TITAN Supersyn 5W-30 for my T Sport.

    Ah, here we go.

It was only a (dark) matter of time, wasn't it...

Yep. You'd think by now he'd have learned how to cover up better.

He's like a comedian with no new material.
  • Just get a big syringe off ebay and suck some out.

Excuse me, but I'm not who you think I am. Please can you stop commenting on my posts with false accusations. thank you.

OK, of course you're not. The person I think you are has absolutely, positively, never claimed not to be the person they've ultimately turned out to be, so clearly, despite all the evidence to the contrary and the quite remarkable, one might almost say incredible, similarities in content and posting style, logically, you cannot be that person.

    Or something.
