Fuel prices rising pretty fast?

For nostalgia purposes (v2), remember my dad coming in moaning that petrol had topped 50p a gallon - would have been somewhere in the mid 1970s. And the family car was a pale green Moskvitch van with Hillman Hunter back seats fitted. And for some reason the numberplate GNG 967K sticks to this day.
(Maybe I should get out more

Fuel prices could not have risen without MSE posting a thread on it you must be mistaken?
Quick search shows it has dropped in price 20 times and never risen once.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The price of Diesel increases during colder weather due to the demand on heating oil, gas oil. As both are the same product, except for dye and marker being added to gas oil, the increase in demand results in higher prices.0

When I passed my test (in 1988) petrol was about £1.60 per gallon (about 35p per litre).
Like a poster above ... some old vehicle registrations remain fixed in my mind ... my Dad's old Ford Cortina Mk2 (?) was GFT544G

Only two registrations I can remember were a 1962 Jaguar 27 DYM and my Wife's new 1983 Escort automatic A50 WFT. One was a rust bucket but now worth a fortune, wish I'd kept it, the other a great car when we sold it but pretty sure it would have turned in to another rust bucket and worth nothing.0

The plate off that Escort would be worth a few quid, though. It appears not to be on anything these days, so I guess the Escort died before the days of the internet.Only two registrations I can remember were a 1962 Jaguar 27 DYM and my Wife's new 1983 Escort automatic A50 WFT. Turned 16 in '75 and bought a Honda SS50 - £212 ( would be worth 10X that now.) tank held 1.5 gal. and had to be nearly empty to sqeeze a quidsworth in! And would then be good for about 150 miles.0
