At least its just a pole that is routing cables, its not got a transformer on it. I would be more concerned if it had a transformer on it.

Concern is national grid or whoever is responsible will at some point want to cut back plants, making it much more visible and a bit of an eyesore.

I used to have one till National Grid re-routed the cables along the road. Shame as I used to get an annual cheque from them.

I also have a BT pole serving me and my neighbour. Still get that cheque. They also come round every 5 years or so and cut back the trees around it which saves me having to get it done. For the price of a few beers the guys usually cut back some of my other trees at the same time....... shhhh!

I'm guessing maybe not if you looking to buy the property.
  • I had one in my last property and had it removed. It can be done.

Presume you had to pay to get it removed? Could be expensive in this instance as will require underground cabling to multiple properties.
  • No. I asked them to look into removing it. It was IN THE MIDDLE of the small garden. They visited, saw my toddler and the metal stay and decided it was expensive litigation waiting to happen.
Cost me nothing and took them ten minutes.

What actually happened to the wires that were coming from this pole when they removed it?

I presume they dug the ground up nearby and re-routed them underground?

(asking because thats how the electric gets to my house - ie from a pole in someone else's garden). Hence I'm not bothered per se if they want that pole removed from their garden - but, obviously, my electric would still have to get to my house. Obviously - I wouldnt accept the pole being moved to my garden...

I think the replies tell you that some people won't be bothered. I would - more about the unsightly lines running over the lawn than the pole itself.

As long as you understand that the attractions of the actual house, including price, have to outweigh the negative of the pole and lines, then there is no reason not to consider it.
