. Also sad now that that's considered slow!
It's not considered slow.... it IS slow.
Seriously, average male 5k time across all groups is (I believe) around 23 minutes. A time slower than 30 mins would put you in the bottom 10%? of all UK 5k runners.
Anyway it doesn't matter as in the end the only person your racing is yourself.0 -
At my PR last week a time of sub 30 mins would have been position 298 out of 410 runners. Bottom 25% are over 30 mins - sounds better to meI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

@MallyGirl I think that he is specifically talking about males over 30 rather than females.
At my parkrun the other week (I've just looked at the figures) there was a field of around 115 people in total. There were 57 males of which there were only 4 males over 30 mins. So ~7% were slower than 30 mins.
Which sounds about right to me.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
ah - sounds better. My userid is obviously female but some others could be either gender.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Just to follow up with this:
To get an age grade score of 50% for a female:
For a 5k need to be running
Age 30: 28:52
Age 40: 30:00
Age 50: 33:30
Incidentally for a 65 yr old male running 28:00 gives a grade average of 58.65% which is better than average.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I am also obviously female.
I finished 20th out of 50 females at my last parkrun so I don't know if I agree that it is slowMortgage received 21/12/2018
Mortgage at start - £261,980
Current mortgage - £260,276
Saving towards a loft conversion first, then to smash the mortgage down!0 -

If you are over 40 then 30:00 would be considered better than average if you are under 40 then it would be below average.
31:44 is average for a 46yr old female.
Try https://www.goodrunguide.co.uk/AgeGraded.asp to give your time an age graded score. Greater than 50% is good.
Edit: Also parkrun is not a representative sample as a lot of the female runner that run at my local one are clearly very slow compared to the average runner.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
