Hard disc recorder

So I am coming to the end of my Sky contract and due to being unsure where we will be living in 6 months (landlord issues) I am reluctant to start a new contract with a tv service provider. My TV currently receives its signal via a sky+ HD box, but the built in freeview works on the tv also. I am looking at keeping he internet going but removing the tv package (should save about £30 a month).
Am I right in thinking the sky+ box will be unable to record once the tv service is switched off? (In typing this somewhere in my head is saying I might still be able to record on the sky box? But surely not if I've cancelled the tv package...)
If so, can I buy a hard disc recorder that will record programs off the tv's built in freeview service? If so, can anyone recommend a box - I don't want to spend £150 on a hard disc recorder with built in freview if I can just get the recorder for cheaper.

We are doing the same, leaving Sky and have just installed a Humax 1100s, it does everything the Sky box did, not so easily as the Sky box but works well. Be aware that when you disconnect your Sky box from the dish you will not be able to watch previously recorded items which can be a pain.
But before you ditch Sky see what the cancelation team will offer you.0 -
You can use your Sky dish and cabling to get Freesat which gives you an extra choice when choosing a PVR.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Some people have been able to keep recording once their sub ended

Sorry but this is simply not right. The old blue cards needed a signal to turn them off after the subscription ended so you could remove them for a while, I thought it was six months and it may carry on working until Sky do a major update.
But the later white cards need a signal from the satellite to work and when the subscription ends that signal is turned off. I have about a dozen white cards and have tried the remove for three months trick twice without success.0 -
So do these have freeview built in or are they just recorders that will record off my built in freeview on tv?0 -
