in Credit cards
Hi All
I have a marks and Spencer credit card which I hope to pay off soon. Can I close the account in writing as I dont want to telephone them because its an expensive thing for me at the moment due to me not having a good landline contract.
Do i send the cards back cut in two? or when it closed it wouldnt really matter re the cards I suppose.
regards

I don't think you can write to them to get them to close your account because you would need to go through security questions etc so that they can establish it is the account holder they're speaking to.
When your account is closed you don't need to send anything back to them, just cut your card up and bin/shred it.
Calls to 0345 numbers should cost the same as local numbers (pennies). If you really can't afford it, can you ask friends/family to borrow their phone? The call shouldn't take more than a few minutes.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Don't know about M & S but I have cancelled my cards with Debenhams, by post and I just advised them that I had destroyed the card, they were happy with that and sent me written confirmation that the account was closed.0
