Hot BT Fibre deal

- What if BT hikes prices? Discounted broadband is fixed for a year. Standard line rent could rise, but you're protected if you pay upfront.
MSE: Are you sure this is correct (red type)?
When I switched from Sky (who were ripping me off) to BT in October 2015, the final price for broadband was settled at £5 a month for 12 months and the person on the phone who arranged the deal told me that price was fixed for the 12 month contract, but that I would have to call near the end of the contract to avoid paying the 'regular' price from month 13.
Well, in the Spring of this year, BT increased the price of my broadband to over £6 a month. When I complained several months ago, the only options available were to continue paying the higher price, cancel the contract and pay BT for the remainder of the contract, or cancel the existing contract before it finished and start a new one at the old price, meaning I am tied into another 12 month contract with BT.
Anyway, I opted for the latter but, instead of charging me the old price of £5 a month, BT have been charging me £9.81 a month! At the same time, I notice they are now advertising a price of £4 a month on TV, though in the 'small-print' at the bottom of the screen, you can just make out that it says prices may change.
I am waiting for BT to respond to a complaint, but I think their adverts are misleading, as I am sure most people would expect to pay the £4, £5 (or whatever price they choose) a month for the entire contract.
I just had my mother moved to BT Infinity for £10 a month for '12' months and I am going to watch BT like a hawk in case they decide to raise the price next April/May.
Unfair trading?
