Scaffolders won't take it down!

Help please! We are renovating a house and had scaff erected around the house in April. When it was erected I wanted to withhold 30% of the charge to pay when they took it down, but the owner refused and became quite angry and intimidating so I didn't. We have been trying for months to get the company to remove the scaffolding but they won't - they have removed some but most of it is still up. I'm calling them daily now, and they seem to be avoiding my calls. It's blocking us from doing other work we want to do.
I want to give them a time limit to take it down, and say that if it is not taken down within that time I will pay someone else to take it down (at the scaffolding company's cost) and sell the scaff to defray that cost if necessary. Does this sound reasonable?
Has anyone else any better suggestion or any advice? Thanks

Check your house insurance to see if you are covered for legal costs. If you are, their solicitor can advise how to proceed.

April to October is just ridulous - are you sure the company is still in business?

If you have a current address, send a registered/to be signed for/tracked letter advising that if they don't remove the scaffolding by (date) you will assume legal possession and dispose of it as you see fit.

Then put it on e-bay (buyer to dismantle as well as collect!)

I'd phone and email them and say they have until 5pm on Monday to shift it or you will be contacting the local paper with a view to publicising their behaviour in order to warn other people what might happen if they use their services.

Just tell them that some local labourers have offered to take it away for free.

Yes th company's still in business - they were answering my calls and giving excuses up until last week! Anyone know the legalities of this?
The suggestion of the insurance cover is very good, thank you for that.

I'd love to! Retrospectively, £10 a day? But then there's getting them to pay it....
