lease car

Hi

Need of advice. I had a accident, someone hit me from back and my foot slipped from break and I hit another car. It was down hill...

I phoned my insurance and explained the situation. They said a claim handler will phone me. Then I had a phone call saying they are handling my claim. Took all details and said they will arrange for my car to be taken and lease car will be left with me.

They said they will claim money from third party. This was all done quick on phone . I assume I was dealing with my insurance..

My car has been taken and they left an expensive car behind. Need car for school runs. Children go to 3 different schools.

What happens if they can't recover cost from third party?

Thanks for your help

You, probably signed to say you will help recover it or pay for it.

Suppose I didn't want to hear that.

When I questioned on the phone they kinda of hinted I will loose excess. Just hope 3rd party doesn't dispute the accident

    Thank you

Might have been an option to claim from the third party's insurance than your own once they accept liability.

Means your excess, premiums and NCD on your insurance are not affected, but you still let them know of the incident of course.

unfortunately accidents some time to sort out, my last non fault accident took 3+ months for the third party to pay up.

Lots of hard evidence that any claim you make when blameless will affect your premium in future irrespective of whether you use your own insurer or the third party one for the actual claim!

The problem was I phoned my insurance, they said to me that they will get a claim handler to phone me. I assumed this claim handler was my insurance. I didn't phone them, shortly after my call to insurance I was phoned saying that they are handling my claim.

Now I realised what's going on. I didn't know what was best procedure to follow. I followed what the insurance letter said to phone this number to report an accident.

I just hope I am not stuck with costs personally.

    Thanks for the advice

The only reasons you could end up with any bills would be if you have told any lies regarding the details of the incident (which contribute to the liability being successfully disputed), or if you breach any terms of the credit hire agreement (eg refuse to co-operate over any court action needed to get the other side to pay up)

So will be this 1 non fault claim because the car hit you from behind
    and
1 fault claim because you hit the other vehicle?

I agree, but some claims take some time and if the open claim is on the Third party insurer you went through and your own insurer suffered no loss, Your own premiums won't be as high than compared to if your own insurer is awaiting payment or further TP red tape.

No idea assume that's how it works. I passed all the details to my insurance. I assume the car I hit will claim from insurance.. my insurance will claim for my car and the car I hit.

    No idea how it works.
