Where to go at Xmas?

Want to get away at xmas but surprised at so few options. Would consider anything and everything so long as it's outside the UK and over the actual Christmas period. Sunny or snowy although neither of us has any clue about actual skiing and such.

Everything I look at seems to stop around middle of December, for example just looking at Morocco but sure enough not over xmas. Don't understand why not I mean it's not as if it's a Christian country.

Any ideas suggestions or hints from MSE-ers very welcome.

We hired a villa in Lanzarote last year, went out on boxing day, back after new year.

This year we're for Tenerife to an all inclusive hotel (so as not to be impacted by any currency fluctuations), flying out Christmas eve, returning new years eve.

Wherever you go, do you want it to "look like Xmas" in the streets/shops? All tinsel and trees, or "none of that, that's what we're escaping!"

We are off to lanzarote on boxing day for a week. Just had a quick look on Thomas cook and there's loads for the canary's leaving on the 20th for a week for as little as £420pp

I like going away for Xmas and/or New Year for a few days. I think my favourite was Barcelona where it was warm enough to sit outside during the day and most bars and restaurants were open as usual.

How can you be surprised at so few options? Surely you can go anywhere in the world?

What sort of holiday do you want to do?

    We've done all sorts.

Hired a log cabin in Norway - built igloos and walked across ice lakes, a little bit of skiing but that wasn't the main reason, lots of sledging and having snowball fights. The cabin had a Jacuzzi and sauna which was fantastic after a chilly day. Temperatures got as low as -30 but it didn't really feel cold like it does in the UK. St Niklaus came into the local pub on Xmas eve and gave the children small presents. My son was 5 at the time and it is still his most vivid memory of Xmas and he's 17 now.

Caribbean. We've done lots of different islands and if you want to sit on a beach drinking a rum punch whilst Santa comes by jet ski onto the beach, it's rather fun and surreal.

    Have fun deciding.
