The rear windscreen of my car is smashed and needs replacing.

I have fully Comprehensive Car Insurance with Octagon.

What is the money saving expert way of getting my windscreen replaced that wont affect my car insurance premium when it comes to renewal?

Thanks

Claim off your insurance for windscreen damage.

Wont that affect my no claims bonus? Will it make my insurance renewal price higher if I claim?

During getting a car insurance quote do I have to declare this incident because it happened in the last 5 years? If I do will my car insurance quote go up high?

I've had a few windscreen replacements and it's made no noticeable difference, I suppose it depends on the company, I'd still try and get the parents to reimburse you for the excess.

With most insurers, a glass claim doesn't affect your NCD - check your policy.

But your premiums might increase a bit as a result (perhaps for up to 5 years).

You can do 'dummy' quotes on the comparison sites, with and without a glass claim, to get a feel for this - but don't use your own name, address or reg number.

You can also get a quote from a small independent windscreen fitting company. Compare the quote to your excess and any increased premiums - to make sure you're better off claiming.

    Thanks for all the info.

Another question is that If I take the insurance route then do I go to Auto Glass first or do I go directly to my insurance company first? Is there any companies better than Auto Glass with good reviews or is Auto Glass the only company in Birmingham?

If I take the non insurance route that is calling a independent windscreen fitter then how much it typically costs to replace a rear windscreen on a saloon size car like a ford mondeo?

Your insurer will almost certainly have a company that they use in preference to others. You may have to pay an excess either direct to the insurer or to the repairer. If you use another repairer you might have to pay the full amount then claim the cost (less excess) back from your insurer.

Contact your insurer first - after reading your policy details as often there is phone number specifically for glass replacements.

I don't think that anyone goes to Autoglass any more as they have closed most if not all of their depots.

They come to you - either at home or to your workplace.

In the past most glass claims never affected your no-claims. However "most" Insurers now count that as a claim that does affect your no-claims.

Third party breakage? Get them to pay. Don't touch your insurance.

Suggest to the kid's parents that they pay for the damage their child caused, and take it as a lesson on parenting.

If it's your child, then the answer still applies.
