Hi all,
I bought a Samsung top of the range 2014 model television last year November from John Lewis. The TV was a marked down item but came with john Lewis's warranty of 5 years. The TV is the ue55hu8500 http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-ue55hu8500-review.
Now the TV has got a faulty which has not been repaires despite many attempts.
They are now offering my money back or £900 towards the TV. The problem now is that as this is the flasgshit TV from 2014, the equivalent TV now costs £1500.
I am intilted to a replacement TV with the same spec or will I have to make do with £900 refund?

You nearly had a years use out of it. Take the £900 it's perfectly fair and in line with JL's legal obligations.
Exactly how much did you pay for it a year ago?0 -
They have the right to offer a partial refund taking away your benefit of use.0

As above, you had had a year of use from your tv. A tv from 2016 will be much improved on a 2014 version.

I paid £900 for the TV. But the TV at £900 are of a lesser spec than my current TV.
I guess its unreasonable to ask for a new TV?0 -

If the TVs are of a lesser spec then wait until the sales are on and pick one up for less, as you did originally.0 -

Totally!
They are offering you a full refund of the purchase price!0 -
The five year guarantee John Lewis offer is exceptional. When someone I know had a very expensive plasma TV die just before the 5 years was up they replaced it with the nearest spec they could offer, plasmas no longer being made, and refunded them over £500 as the original TV had been purchased at its highest price point.
Black Friday is only a month away - there will be lots of bargains to be had on a new TV then.0 -

We had a similar experience. Our tv failed one month before the guarantee ran out. They gave us the choice of what tv we wanted to replace it and as tv were now much cheaper refunded over £1000 for the price difference between what we paid and what the new tv cost.0 -
The problem is the high range TVs won't be dropping in price. Maybe I will buy another clearance TV from john lewis. Worst case its faulty and I go around I'm a circle.0
