Why not show Fuel rises per Gallon not per Litre...

which was done purely to make the rise not sound so much? - just at thought!

Because most (if not all) British retailers advertise their price by the litre so it is easier for the average consumer to comprehend the rise...
    Dwy galon, un dyhead,
    Dwy dafod ond un iaith,
    Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
    Dau enaid ond un taith.

I assume that when we leave the EU, we'll go back to good old gallons and feet and inches!:)

They quote the wholesale price by the barrel, and in the UK, they sell by the litre (because of the metric system coming in, rather than some conspiracy to make things look cheaper!), so it makes sense to announce the rises in the same unit!

I hope not - The metric system is used the world over (except in the USA where they have their own version of gallons & inches). Using litres & metres removes any confusion when dealing with (most) furriners and also makes life so much easier when doing the maths.

When I was at primary school in the early '70's we were taught metric first, and imperial as an afterthought. So everybody younger than me (which must be most of the population by now) will have been taught metric.

Why go back to an over-complicated, obsolete system that's used by nobody in the World except the USA and a few old fogeys in this country? And even some of their measurements don't match our old Imperial ones.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

As a fully paid-up old fogey I can swing both ways on most measure, and so can my wife, who's 11 years younger.

Mind you, neither of us knows our rod from our poles, and we can't perch these days, but we can do it in chains at a push. ;)

Only boastful American males use a different version of an 'inch'. For most the inch is the same size as the rest of the world i.e. 25.4mm.
