Henry isn't as powerful as he used to be; he went all eco in 2014 to meet EU regs.

Some say he is just as good, but many say he's now emasculated.

I bought a second-hand Henry for £42, carefully selected on the Bay, to avoid the matter of whether the above is true.

If you still want a high powered vac, it's possible to buy a wet and dry model which gets around those pesky regulations, but of course, it will cost more to run.
  • Miele Cat & Dog. Amazingly powerful compared to the Dyson we had. It has variable power controls so you can turn the power down to lift pet hair off bedding without the entire bed disappearing up the hose!!

I've had a Samsung CycloneForce (VC08F70HDUR) for a few years now and it's been great, it replaced a Dyson Animal and far out performs it. Was a bargain too as it was already heavily discounted at Currys plus Samsung were offering cashback at the time :)

Miele all the way although I hear Henry's are good as well.

Got to laugh at the Dyson fans saying its so good I'm on my third! Buy a decent vacuum and you won't be needing a second let alone a third!

everything else is a junk compared to henry...
and no there's really no power loss, I have both the old and new, same power.. you can pickup one used for around £30, using them for building work, the one thing I like about them: they are reliable, simple, cheap and has loads of power.
  • I don't have animals but I do have a Shark Liftaway. Bought it after reading the reviews on Argos website and I was not disappointed. Could not recommend enough

Pretty sure Shark do some sort of pet hair cleaner too.

The whole escalating wattage was effectively just for marketing spiel.

    "49000W of raw power!"
    "Now with 50000W of power!"

In reality, the EU limit just ends the nonsense.

    Also, Henry.

Was just about to post similar. The idea that regulations do anything other than protect the consumer is ridiculous. The sensationalist media have a lot to answer for!
