Vacuum recommendations

I need a good vacuum cleaner as I've got a Labrador that constantly moults. Downstairs is laminate flooring and upstairs is carpet so ideally need something that will be effective on both. Thought I could save up now and maybe grab a bargain in the January sales.

Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • Miele C3 cat and dog. We have limestone floors downstairs and carpet upstairs, we wouldn't be without it.

I was always a Dyson fan until I got a Shark. Not sure which one I have (am on hols atm), but it's very versatile with a beater bar that can be turned on and off for switching between laminate and carpet, on board tools, lift-away section for car cleaning etc and a very easy to empty bin.
I have 3 cats, 2 dogs, and long hair - it picks up all with no fuss. The soft brush tool is excellent for skirting and dusting too.
I got it from one of the tv channels, Ideal World or QVC, at half the price of my last Dyson.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

Not a dyson, the original one was very good, the current one is expensive and feels very cheap, flimsy and not worth the money.

Miele. We had a Dyson once and didn't rate it at all.
