flight compensation for delay on air transat

hiya all i recently had a flight with air transat from birmingham uk to toronto canada. there was an initial delay of around 5 hours apparently due to a slash in the tyre on the plane and they had no tyres at birmingham so had to have one shipped up from london.. also during the flight they said the crew were now going to run out of work time and so they had to divert us to montreal for a crew change before then heading to toronto. plus we were waiting on the runways and waiting for free gates etc which eventually resulted in us being around 10 hours late.. although by the time we got off the plane it was more eleven hours late.my question is this.. would this be a technical fault beyond the airlines control? possibly the tyre thing could be used as an excuse but not sure about the crew change etc. also i can't see the airline listed on anything on MSE website so wondering who to write to.

any help/advise would be appretiated.
