Just seen this - not sure how solid the information is or what it might mean to shareholders

:T :T :T absolutely correct, every time mr darling speaks on the subject he chuckles boardering on open laughter when he speaks of the shareholders being the losers. :T :T :T0 -

better than flowers taking the rock apart and not as good as if the ex abbey guy wins the day imo.
if mr branson wins shareholders who hang in for the long ride would benefit from enhanced shareholder value should mr branson make a success of the rock.
whatever happened to virgin cola. :rotfl:

"In 1997 when Tony Blair’s government came to power he was seen a supporter but has since declared that there is little to chose between the Labour and Conservative party. He has on a number of occasions intimated that he may run for Mayor of London but has never done so."0 -

I'm with you on this, from a shareholders' point of view Arnold's bid would have been better. But the overall Virgin package is better - especially for the Rock's heartland.
Taxpayers should bear in mind the massive cost of the resulting unemployment and knock on effect to the already fragile north east economy. The NR rescue could end up a bargin for taxpayers if Branson turns it round.
I'm a small shareholder and I will vote in favour of the Virgin proposals. I just hope the big shareholders accept this is the best deal for everyone.0 -
Well what I'd like to hear is that Sir Richard knows the UK housing market will be buoyant for the next three years so that NR will be able to pay back all that it owes.
And that the Chancellor agrees with him.
Then I'll start up my new business in the breeding of flying pigs -- encouraged by certain, er, revisions to CGT which are being brought in for reasons utterly unconnected with Mr Brown's fear of the impact of mass BTL disposals on that same housing market. . .0 -
LibDem Leader Vince Cable has just said the Virgin bid is unlikely to succeed and The Treasury is aware of that so is drawing up plans now to "temporarily" (?) nationalise NR.
The bid won't succeed (says Cable) because of shareholder resistance -- and because Sir Richard is only the "front man" for a group which includes some of dubious character / background.
Huh????0 -
Apololgies first of all for this question.
This is the first time I have bought shares, but thought I would take a punt on Northern Rock, didn't expect things to go so bad. My question is, what happens to my shares when NR get bought out, do I lose them or can I keep hold of them in the hope that in the future they may make some money?
Does this question make sense?
