Enter coupon code /pin scam??? at petrol station

Don't think this is a scam but anyone know? I paid for petrol at Esso in the stop and entered credit card into machine. I started to enter my pin before realizing it was asked for "coupon code". The assistant then realized and corrected it and I entered the pin again. Should I be concerned about this? i.e. he could have my pin and can do something with it??? I'm quite sure it was just a mistake unless anyone knows more?

Without your card, what exactly is the cashier supposed to do with your PIN?

Sounds like a simple mistake, however if it is bothering you that much, just keep an eye on your card account for the next month.

If it were a scam, there would typically be somebody else who watches where you put your card away and then pickpockets you (so they have both PIN and card).

That's how 'shoulder surfers' sometimes operate at ATMs.

If you've still got your card, you should be ok. If you're really worried, change your PIN at an ATM.
