This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Morning folks. A quickie from me as the 3 DGDs are to waken up and I will have the usual chaos and mayhem to face before they are shoved into the car for school.

I have just been sneaking around and making their packed lunches as last night I was so clapped out I ended up comatose on the sofa, then couldn't be ar**d!

DS came home shattered after a late shift, but with the good news that the agent had messaged to say his references and credit rating were good (that was quick!) and as soon as the apartments are finished off he's good to go! The deranged one is still on his back with voicemails and texts but he has threatened to block her number. Enough's enough.

Have a good day, (((HUGS))) to all in need and take care all xx

    Morning All

Thanks for the thread Gers - hope you have a good time with your visitors.

We had the most glorious weather yesterday, I walked with a class along to the museum and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure the children were that interested!

No washing today, will do neighbours later. DW and bins emptied this morning.

Must do some paperwork later, my car insurance is dangerously close to running out!

    Happy Friday. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Today I'm off to Glasgow first thing. We've got relatives visiting so I need to be there. My cousin was over a couple of years ago though this time she's bringing her niece too. I've never met this niece so it'll be interesting. Cousin is at a Fairtrade event in Paisley today so there's some breathing space.

It's still dark outside with some light beginning to seep in. The crescent moon in a cloudless sky last night was so beautiful.

Right, I have to start making moves so I wish everyone a happy Friday.
  • Good morning all x
Last night dinner was sticky bbq chicken and tonight I think we will have a pizza.
No WM or DW to do today as all done yesterday. DD1 has the lurgy so not sure if we will see her this weekend.
Been trying to get DH to take us to a big market nearish us.but so far he has found a way to get out of it hopefully we can go tomorrow morning. I only want to go cause there is a meat man van there and I know we can get some good deals from him.
Off to work in a bit for another morning of being sworn at and stressed out just love Fridays NOT.

    Morning all,

Cooler here today think the heating might have to go on in the morning for a while soon, its fine at night with the log burner but we don't put it on before going out to work.

The log man phoned yesterday to say could he come tonight now so we have cleaned out the little shed in readiness so this evening will be lugging logs into the shed to keep them dry.

Hot dogs for dinner tonight so I need to stop and buy some buns on the way home, also I need wine :o.

DD has just come down in a pair of comedy monster slippers and evie has gone into attack mode and is trying to 'kill' them, the terrier in her is really coming out now, she is a funny little thing.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, dry underfoot, but air has the autumn feel to it. Managed to get a big line of washing on the line yesterday although not completely dry - as just not warm enough/enough breeze, although breeze did pick up later in the afternoon here.

DH up and gone to work early, DS1 and DS2 still in their pits as one is on hols from work and other doesn't go to college on a Friday.

Dinner last night was just myself and the boys - I picked up a fairly large piece of gammon, which I cooked yesterday afternoon, once it was cooked I sliced it, cooked some chips and eggs and the boys had gammon, egg and chips, I had gammon, egg and salad, it was lovely, there's some left which I'm going to give the boys some in baguettes for lunch, then the rest is going to be for a salad tomorrow night.

I wasn't overly productive yesterday, although I did visit the building society, bank and butchers in town. I did all the washing, drying and ironing up to date, although there is now more washing in the basket, so another load to go on shortly. I did spend some time on the telephone, 1 call to Sky, I had noticed our direct debit seemed to have risen sharply, so wanted an explanation, got one and got them to reduce it, so cheaper for not that much less viewing wise, so happier with that, although I still think it's expensive! More worryingly I spent some time on the telephone to DH's personal pension company who we've had absolutely never had a problem with, and now a d/debit last month was taken but for a different amount and this month they've not taken anything, they obviously couldn't talk specifically to me as it's in his name, so they are going to look into this and reply to the queries in a letter to DH, also we have now composed an authority letter so they will speak to me - as you all know DH works long hours, the customer services telephone lines at this company are open 9am-5pm Mon to Fri, not much good for working people, and no real help on the website either! We await their reply - we're fairly sure it has something to do with DH's birthday that is in the middle of all this, but we've had no notification anything was going to change, we'll wait and see, they did say they don't take too long to respond, so hoping it's sooner rather than later.

I'll be heading to the SM shortly, then I want to get some baking/cooking done, I really fancy carrot cake, so have got a recipe printed out and checked that I have the ingredients, I only need cream cheese and walnuts - I have everything else, even the right size baking tins! So I'll be making that later, I'm also thinking of some cookies, oat type biscuits and maybe some mince pies and/or a fruit tea loaf, I haven't made one of those for ages and they're lovely. I'm doing OK with my GC challenge, although today's shop will be the start of week 3, so I'll then have a good idea of whether I'm going to manage to come in under budget - it's looking ok at the moment, and I've written a menu plan for next week.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, thanks for the thread Gers. Enjoy your weekend with your extended family :)

We got up st 7am, I must've turned the alarm off yesterday doh! DD and DS2 got showered, breakfasted and out the door in 20mins which proves it can be done lol! Now off for my shower and hair wash.

TA - really pleased that your son is moving on (literally!) and glad he has seen the light with the toxic relationship. BIL was the same with his ex wife - difference being they have two children so he has to still deal with her.
dumpling - so happy to hear you are doing so well xx
    Hester - sending hugs xx

Today I'm at the church then popping for a bite to eat with a friend. Also need to pick up an order at Ne*t which is neices birthday present. Dinner tonight is just for the children as we are at a friend's house - daughter is about to depart for a ski season and has to practise her chalet hosting skills! Should be good.

Hugs to all in need and have a good day all,
    Coxy

    Morning everyone,

Rubbish nights sleep so feel bleurgh!

No time to catch up today as have a lot on, picking up Mum and taking her to the bungalow to meet the community Stoma lady. Because she lives in a different county to my brother it would take weeks to transfer her so it was easier to do it this way rather than have to wait, seems a bit quick to me as she only saw someone on Wednesday but the lady was in Mum's area so guess makes sense.
DM also went for blood test yesterday and the doctor asked to see her, bit annoyed actually as he wanted to go through everything that had happened and talk through what will happens when she starts to deteriorate which we had already done with the palliative team. Like she said it just brought it all back just when she was managing to live day to day, was very quiet and had to have an afternoon nap for first time in days :(

Sorry, I seem to do nothing but bring the thread down these days.

Hope you enjoy your visitors Gers and pleased to hear that the news was so positive for your DS TA sounds like the toxic one needs blocking for sure!

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
