Hi,

I currently have a Capital One card which I have had for over a year now and the limit is £1750, I have just applied for 2 more cards, 1 with Ocean and 1 with Chrome, both have been approved. Firstly I am wanting to know, Chrome have given me a £500 limit and Ocean have given me a £200 limit, I believe Ocean is part of Capital One? If I have a £1750 limit on my original card, would the £200 limit on the Ocean card get increased over time like the Capital One card did? I'm a bit worried that now I have 2 cards with Capital One I won't see any more limit increases, i'm not sure how it works.

I got the 2 new cards as I thought they would help me build my credit rating as all my cards are cards for bad credit, although my credit is not bad I just cannot seem to get any better cards at the moment. Do you guys have any tips on how I can improve my credit rating now that I have 3 credit cards?

Thanks

ignore the rating as no one sees it but you. What you need to do is build up a nice solid credit history. That means spending a bit on each card every month and paying off in full every month - set up a DD so you cannot forget.

Do you have a bank account? Mobile phone? Are you on the electoral roll?

Are all the above showing across all 3 provers (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit)?

If you now have 3 credit cards just use them responsibly.

Do you have other defaults/CCJs/late payments etc?

I have 2 current accounts, I don't have a mobile phone contract anymore and I am on the electoral roll.

Only the Capital One card is showing on my credit file at the moment as I ain't long opened the other 2.

I don't have any defaults/CCJ's/Late payments, my credit file is all marked with green ticks with all my creditors. The one thing I will say that don't do me alot of good I don't think is I open and close alot of mobile phone accounts by paying them off early. Also all my open accounts on my file have only been open for about 18 months, so the history on my open accounts wouldn't be that great.

If you don't have any CCJ's/late payments or defaults, then why the need for 3 'bad credit' credit cards?

Why not try applying for a card with one of the banks you have accounts with? That should have been your first port of call as they know what your financial history is like.

  • When I do the eligibility checker that's all that comes up for me, would it be because I don't work?

Probably yes. You need to be able to demonstrate some form of income to repay any debts, and those without work are considered higher risk and therefore get less impressive deals.
