This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning all, am I first up today?!
Needed to get up as my mind is working overtime. I had an Expectations evening as DS2's school last night then had to go ask a fellow youth club leader if he would be a referee for my new role. I feel awful as the other leaders (friends and church members) have no idea what's going on and the minister said not to tell anyone just yet, so us sloping off into a room roused a few suspicions no doubt. I hate not being honest with people, it doesn't sit well with me.
I am going to the gym today for the first time in two weeks, so it will no doubt hurt a lot! At the charity later and my manager will be popping in to discuss leaving dates etc. In a lot of ways it will be easier to leave the charity as the work is a methodical process - the church job is so multi functional that it will take longer to handover and will no doubt mean a lot of volunteers having jobs foisted up on them until a replacement for me is found.
DH has some leads to follow up today - hoping something comes his way soon.
Hugs and positivity to all those with worries and poorlies on here. Will be back on later once I'm more awake!

Thanks for the thread Coxy
I'm off to work in a sec, the fish have been fed and my L&M has a cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning All
Washing on the line, in the dark, it's quite chilly out there but clear and dry. DW emptied.
Walked to the delivery office after work to collect a parcel, lovely evening to be out. Put a chicken on to cook while I was out and it was delicious, lots of left overs for the rest of the week.
Sounds like you had a good time dumpling, glad you enjoyed the film.
Walking along to a local museum to see an exhibition with some children today, sadly we didn't get any parent volunteers - they only want to go to the good places! Still, that will be my walk for the day so not complaining and the weather is to be good again.
Have a good day, nearly Friday! Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks COY for the thread. Just been catching up on last night's posts and so happy to read DUMPLING's! How well you are doing, it does my heart good to follow your progress.
I had a good night out with the girlies, even though we were down to just 3 of us, what with illness, house guests etc. It made it easier to talk as well. I'm not the only one with worries just now it seems.
Well DS picked up the rest of his stuff yesterday without any dramas. I now feel I am living in Steptoe's yard with dozens of boxes, piles of clothes, boys toys, tools and gadgets piled up everywhere. Oh I forgot to add a bike and 50" tv. I'm just so happy he is finally out of that toxic relationship that I don't care that we are living amongst it all!
And he's certainly not letting the grass grow under his feet! He's keen now to move on and make a fresh start and has been roaming the net for somewhere he fancies. He still has his own little house but can't turn his lodger out! Yesterday afternoon he arranged to view some newly converted apartments in an old mill 2 miles from work and dragged me along with him for a second opinion! They appealed to him immensely and he was straight up to the agents to sign up for one!! Perfect batchelor pads! Everything shiny and new with white goods in place. Good security and a newly kitted out gym in the basement. He hasn't looked so happy for months. It's a joy to see.
Oh well the DGDs are still asleep so it's time I roused them up and got them fed and watered ready for school. Then off food shopping as DS has eaten us out of house and home these last 10 days! Freezer stocks have never been so low!
Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Thinking of the poorlies especially. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all,
Blowing a hooly here and cooler again, last night was very chilly here with a real winter feel to it.
Off to work today but getting nearer to the weekend must say I cant wait, I need to rub down and paint the plaster around the log burner and OH is going to fit the bit of oak we have got for a mantle. We also have a load of logs being delivered Saturday so need to clean the shed out ( we have two sheds and one has become a dumping ground and most of it can go)
Dinner tonight will be something and chips will go and look after this, also need to put a wash on, dw is on at the moment so will need emptying.
Have good days all xx
And well done to dumpling xx0 -
Morning all, thank you for starting us off Coxy.
I have an infection where the shard of root was removed from my gum last week. It was healing well but has now decided to throb and pulse and that side of my jaw feels all wrong. Will ring the dentist when they open.
It is cool but dry. I was cold in the night, chiefly because my OH was rolled up in the duvet like a sausage roll. Managed to wrest a bit from him after a slight struggle. I have let him live as I am not a vindictive woman.
No major plans today, other than dentisty stuff, and at some point, possibly tomorrow, I must buy warm socks to wear indoors, mine are threadbare so not that warm.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry but overcast here, quite dark as well!
It certainly lifted my spirits to read of your adventures Dumpling good for you m'dear x
All went well with DM's appointment yesterday, the lady from the clinic remarked how well she looked and was pleased with how she is coping with the Stoma, some slight adjustments and she was done. We popped into ours on the way home and had a light lunch, change of scenery for Mum and gave my SIL chance to do a few errands. I am going back over this evening as they have a parents evening for my nephew, Mum would probably be ok but gives me an excuse to visit
Other than that need to visit Bill this morning and do some in-hand walking to keep him supple as the weather gets a bit colder, will pick up some shopping as nearly out of fruit and veg and the bed needs changing.
Pleased to read that your son is now out of such a toxic situation TA and being so positive about the next chapter, you must be relieved.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning everyone.
Chilly but still dry here. There was overnight high winds again, the house groans when that happens.
My trip to Oban was successful and short. I bought a step ladder and two sausage draught excluders and dropped off two unwanted electrical items at the recycling centre there. It's a company which sells all sorts of stuff, PAT tests electricals and so on. It also supports refugees and homeless people who need home start up kits.
Today I've got my two hour teaching session. Need to prepare my cohort for their first assessment next week, that will be both interesting and challenging.
Coxy - enjoy the feeling of success and supporting your family through the tough times.
Dumpling - what a pleasure it was reading about your foray yesterday. Huge congratulations to you, I hope you can see a great future for yourself now.
TA - another pleasure to hear about your DS. His new flat and life without poison sounds fabulous.
Today I have some lovely yogurt and foraged blackberries for breakfast and a morning of marking.
Happy Thursday everyone.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a beautiful bright morning here, the girls have just left for school and hubby is in the shower as he has a hospital appointment this morning.
I have my lovely CMHT lady coming over today to take me out somewhere. I texted her yesterday while I was at the cinema along the lines of "you will never guess where I am!" so it will be great to see her today. My sister is popping in for a cuppa as well this morning and I am going out again tonight for a meal for her birthday. I've had a look at the menu and there are a few things I can have to eat whilst following this diet so I am happy.
I popped a chicken in the slow cooker last night before bed and have woken up to a lovely cooked chicken ready to make into meals. I am going to make a curry for everyone tonight and then a casserole for the freezer.
Great to hear about your son escaping a toxic relationship and moving on so quickly TA, I hope he is very happy in his new bachelor pad.
I'm glad your mum had a nice day yesterday as well Lainey, hope you have a nice time with Bill as well.
Oh poor you ancientofdays, I hope they can sort out that infection. By the way I am usually the one rolled up in the duvet but hubby is also the forgiving type.
Fingers crossed for your DH Coxy, hope he finds a new job really soon, and many congrats again for getting yours.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Coxy - Thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot but chilly, autumn definitely on it's way, forecast here doesn't look so good here for the weekend. Load of washing ready to go out, will do that in a mo.
DH up and gone to work - not stupid early, as he's probably going to have a late finish. DS1 having a lie in as he's still on hols from work this week. DS2 up, had brekkie and has now left for college, in shorts and a t-shirt - he says he'll be warm enough as he'll be wearing overalls most of the day and he does get hot easily.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, broc, peas and gravy - so lovely - all eaten and enjoyed. Not sure about tonight as I'd menu planned, pork shanks, but forgot to get them out to defrost - so will need to re-plan, have loads in the store cupboard, and some in the freezer so should be able to come up with something, and I'll be visiting the butchers this morning, whilst I'm in town visiting the bank and building society. I have all the other chores on the "to do" list today, so will work my way through what I can get done.
Keep safe and well x
