Windows 10 update.

Last weekend (Sunday, I think) my Windows 10 laptop installed a massive update. Would it be "Anniversary version"?
Since then the boot time had dramatically increased and the p.c. performance reduced considerably. The shutdown changed too. When clicking the bottom left "window" all the installed apps appeared and to their left, vertically, were about four options, power being the bottom one. The lock screen and log in changed too with the log in showing on the lock screen!
I have gone into settings and found a revert back to a previous "build" which has resulted in the former, pre update, operation loading successfully.
Is there any way that I can prevent this problematical, for me, update installing in future? I've looked in settings and there doesn't seem now to be an option to choose whether to download/install or not.

The change to the start menu you describe is what you get with the 1611 anniversary build.
This - http://www.infoworld.com/article/3105827/microsoft-windows/how-to-temporarily-block-the-upgrade-win10-anniversary-update-version-1607.html - is supposd to be a way to defer getting it. I can't comment on whether or not it will work as I had no issues with 1611 on this machine and it hasn't installed on my desktop yet.0 -
Yes, that's Anniversary. I've seen slow performance after the install due to (Microsoft) anti-virus appearing to do a full scan, but settled down eventually. Also seen the Start Menu revert to full screen and browser settings reset.
Now you've reverted I don't know when (or if) the upgrade will occur again. One option is to tell Windows that you're on a metered connection in an attempt to prevent the next 3GB upgrade...- Select Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
- Select the Wi-Fi network > Properties > turn on Set as metered connection.

I had the update over the weekend, can't say I've noticed any reduction in performance or startup times.0

One very very annoying thing about these updates , is that when they happen - Sky Go sees your machine as a different computer - And you can only add/remove devices once a month .
Grrrrr0 -

That sounds like a problem with Sky Go to me. Why not complain?0

I've not had any trouble with Sky Go seeing the PC as a new machine after the updates.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thats interesting , and you have looked in "manage my devices" and are sure its not just added its-self as a new machine ??
(problem would only be apparent if you were up to your limit on device numbers)0
