Getting a phone call to say you've won?

Hello, this might be a daft thread, but;

I get terrible anxiety on the phone, and therefore don't tend to answer - I call people back if they've left a message.

I was wondering how often people are called to be told they've won rather than emailed, and if so, did they leave a message etc!

Now panicking I will miss out on my potential wins lol!!!xxx
I hope you have a happy day full of kindness :A

  • I often get phone calls with recorded messages to say I've won money or an iPad and they ask me to press a button on my phone. I always hang up an blacklist the number.

A lot of competitions that ask for your phone number, the phone number isn't a required element of the form so I don't fill it in, it is usually for the marketing.

Some people use a certain phone for competitions for this very reason as they don't want loads of spam calls and store some of the main numbers that they know could be a win into their phone.

The majority of competitions I have won have all contacted with email or post, I don't particularly like talking on the phone, but I'd risk answering it if it could be a potential win, it only takes a minute to say 'hello' and find out who it is. Will likely be marketing or a winning phone call (I can only but hope) unless it is a relative or friend but I would usually recognise that number or have them stored in my phone.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

An idea would be to get a very cheap or old phone and only use that number when entering comps and for nothing else and then if it rings you know there is a good chance it is about a comp so should answer. Some comps especially some Radio ones will just go to the next winner if you fail to answer

Thread here - How you are informed of wins..

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/526089

Some call and do not call back or leave a message so you can potentially lose out. Over many years and hundreds of wins I can only remember MTV, C4 and ITV actually phoning but they were ones I would not want to have missed - some comps only want a phone number so that's the only way they can contact you - including the radio cash prize ones at the moment.

(I have never had a dodgy call related to a competition and just one text that was)

I've only ever had one call to notify me of a win, that was for £50 worth of Morissons vouchers, I can't remember who ran the comp though.

Same here. I can only recall getting the one phone call, and that was from Premier Stores back when the Wii first came out.

I've had a couple of emails, or even partial prizes, where they've asked me to ring to arrange delivery of a prize.

My only big win was via a phone call - I almost did not answer it , but I am now proud owner of a 43' smart tv because I did x

Just block these 2 numbers (use an app such as Mr Number)
    0843 289 1083 / 0800 031 9706

    Both are for the following
CLC World Resorts & Hotels (AKA Club La Costa World)

and have phoned me on both numbers in the past 24 hours .... they will try and sell you timeshare

Other than that - I have won several times from Radio stations where they inform you via telephone call .... if you don't answer certain ones, they will move on and choose another winner.

Heart phoned me recently when I won £500. I always answer the phone, but most calls are spam.

They have also hounded me over the past week ringing from 3 or 4 different 0161 numbers.
