Hester, I am not convinced that retirement turns you into an old lady overnight, I reckon it takes at least a week.

Early retirement turned me into a new woman! Best thing I'd done in years even though I'm kept very busy. No time to be an old lady.

Morning everyone,

Dry and bright here, we are set for another nice day so WM is on.

Mum has an appointment at the Stoma clinic at midday so we will pick her up and take her in, my OH is coming with me as parking is horrendous but he can drop me off right outside. Hopefully it won't take too long and we are going to pop in to home on the way back to give the girls their lunch. Mum is still keeping relatively well, my SIL sent me a lovely picture yesterday of her sitting in the garden doing a jigsaw puzzle :)

Not much else planned for today, well done again Coxyon getting that job, it's lovely to have good news on the thread.
Enjoy your night out TA am seeing my friends next week and can't wait :)
FIngers crossed that the ecg gives some positive news for your L&M Hester

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning :hello:

Congratulations Coxy Great news! :j

I'm glad DS has got all his things TravellingAbuela Hopefully he can relax now that he doesn't have to see her again xx

I've finally caught up with all the washing. There shouldn't have been so much but the clean clothes we bought back from our holiday smelt musty so I washed everything. Wouldn't like to stay there in winter (or ever again!), must be a nightmare keeping things clean and fresh.

I still haven't found the right unit for the bathroom so I'm using small drawers in there at the moment. It looks much better after it's audit :D The utility room has been scrubbed and sorted. It needs new shelves – we had the boiler replaced a couple of years ago and the new one is slimmer so I'm going to put wider shelves in at some point.

I'm going to carry on with the bedroom today. It's the worst room, mr tru uses it as a dumping ground (I don't know why, we have a shed for that) so even when it's tidy, it's not. I'll do what I can today then go back to it now and then. I need to make space for the stuff elsewhere first, so that room will be an ongoing project :D

• It's over 10 years since I retired and I am STILL awaiting the life of leisure I thought would follow! I very rarely have a minute to myself and, even though I am gone 70, I certainly don't think of myself as an old woman!

I was being tongue in cheek about it taking a week! Many of my former colleagues have retired now and I do still see them, they are having a lovely time, certainly more interesting than my work-dominated life.

Unfortunately I don't really have that option yet, especially if DS wants to do his masters. It would have been different if my OH hadn't given up work.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
• Early retirement gave us all the time we wanted to do all the things that we didn't have time for while we worked. It didn't turn us into Darby and Joan in fact I think it's had the reverse effect as at almost 69 and 72 respectively we seem to be more active than ever and get more from life as time goes by. Nothing's fallen off yet and everything still works, we've never thought of saying 'I can't because I'm too old' in fact.....once a hooligan always a hooligan seems to be a truth!!! I was in my 60s before I discovered the joys of mountains with DD1 and we're off to explore the whole of Iceland with her next summer, who knows what we'll achieve when we're there?
• Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one. Well done on the job Coxy.

Hester, you will never be 'an old lady' your grand children will keep you young!!

The sun is doing its best to shine, it was a nice day yesterday but rather windy.

DD1 is on holiday in Cuba, they are in line for the hurricane. I am convinced they are thrill seekers. They know this is the hurricane season, but they still go to the islands off the east coast of the US.

Coffee morning at the chapel this morning, OH is going to dig some leeks and bring in some sweet corn for our friends.

Some of the equipment we had for OH was due to be collected this morning, they rang yesterday to arrange another date. They had better collect it before the heating engineers come, we have waited a almost a month already.

Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a bright and dry morning here and I managed a little lie-in so I'm happy :D. I'm going to really challenge myself today and go out with my friend to the cinema, oh my tummy is turning over at the thought but I really want to get better and next month Fantastic Beasts is being released and I really really want to take the girls to go and see it. I never saw any of the Harry Potter films at the cinema so I would love to see this new film in all its cinematic glory :D. So this afternoon I will be going in my friends car to the next town and watching the new Bridget Jones film :eek::eek:.

I will be a bit later getting back so have left instructions on what to have for tea on my whiteboard, just hope everyone sees it. It is just cheeseburgers and chips so it's an easy one. Tonight I am going to cook a chicken in the slowcooker for the first time to see what it is like.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Whilst there is nothing wrong with being an old lady (age is a privilege) - early retirement has enabled me to stop doing what I HAD to do and start doing what I WANTED to do.
