O/S Daily Wednesday 05 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone.

It's still so dark outside, I hate the darkness of winter. Still mild though.

Yesterday was a day of going to the tip, a little bit of shopping and a lot of online banking. Then hours on the phone to BT trying to sort out a weird technical problem - four phone calls later it's not sorted yet

To counter that I had a good customer service experience with Ama*on which left me fairly happy. And I had a long chat with a lovely teaching colleague which cleared up a few mysteries of the online 'blackboard' system for me.

I carved up the piece of beef and froze it in three different parcels. Cooked some chicken breasts and made some soup. A cheeky wee glass of wine appeared on my coffee table later on!

Today I have to go up to Oban, mostly to Home*ase for a few bits and pieces. I had planned to see my bank manager this afternoon but she rang yesterday to rearrange it.

I'm going to lie in bed until the light rises. I'm not sure there will be any sun but I live in hope.

WELL DONE COXY - yes, I'm shouting it. Such good news needs shouting from the rooftops, you deserve good news.

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

Morning. Up and hobbling - went to the Garscube Harriers last night. REAL running club. On top of my 10k on Sunday, that hurts. But I think it will do wonders for my speed!

Not working today. Up to feed and water DH. Turfed him out of the door. Going to snooze until 0900. Then I need to take his car to KwikFit for winter tyres, and go to the gym while I'm waiting for it.

Then I am going to treat myself to a shopping trip. I have a 15% off at Run4It after the race, so I'm going to get some big viz kit (essential now as its dark in the evenings) and a new pair of running shoes as one pair is dead and needs to be rotated to everyday slobbing. Thankfully it is budgeted for so not a surprise that is going to hurt too much.

Have a great day all. Well done Coxy. Great that someone on here's life is looking up. (((Hugs))) for all those struggling.

    Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Coxy - good luck in your new job x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, dry underfoot, sounds quite breezy, have a load ready to go out on the line.

Dinner last night was pasta in a cheese and bacon sauce with breaded chicken pieces. Sauce was a jar of pasta bake that I heated and and cooked the pasta separately then mixed it all together in a big pan, it was perfectly edible but the sauce didn't have much flavour, next time I think I'll do the same again but then transfer to an oven dish top with grated cheese and put in the oven for 10 minutes. I decided on a last minute change for tonight's dinner, I got chicken breasts out to defrost, and I'll be making them into a chicken, bacon and mushroom pie when I get in from work, I'll serve mash, carrots, broccoli, peas and gravy with it.

Work yesterday was either manic or dead. I'm working extra hours again this afternoon and I'm working Saturday morning, so I'll be a busy bee on my days' off, tomorrow and Friday - I'll be doing very little on Saturday afternoon, although DH has been saying perhaps this weekend we should turn the heating on to make sure it's working ok before it gets too cold, and we haven't tried it as yet, so that may well be a job to do.

    Keep safe and well x

Dry again, washing to go out. DW doing it's thing, hopefully it will be finished by the time I go to work.

    Congratulations Coxy!

Walked the long way round to the library after work yesterday, took an hour and took the glass to the bottle bank too. Hope this weather continues for a while, I'm quite enjoying going out for a walk after work, only thing is I have a chest of drawers to paint and keep running out of time. I'll try harder today!

    Happy Wednesday, take care. XX

    Well done Coxy!

Morning everyone, cold here but dry and the sun is rising now. It has been lovely during the day this week, at least it mostly has, so I don't mind being cold in the early morning. I'm going to the office for an hour this morning, something booked in a while back a nd it isn't much of an interruption to my week off. I've tried having time off twice in the past couple of months and ended up working, this time I've been messing about quietly, bliss.

I've come to the conclusion that I should quite like to retire but I'd probably miss my friends. That has to be the result of working for the same organisation for over 30 years.

I have to do a bit of shopping after the office, just craft stuff mostly.

Can't think what to cook and my portion sizes are not right, I usually cook for 3 and DS is a hungry chap, OH and I are eating too much. I made Swedish meatballs last night and we had those with a big leafy salad and some french bread.
Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning GERS and all to follow. I too hate the dark mornings but I hate the getting-earlier-and-earlier dark evenings more! Good forecast again for today and WM will be going on shortly so will get the washing pegged out again.

Surprisingly yesterday went smoothly for DS with all his packing etc. The deranged one let him in, kept out of his way and let him get on with it. She sounds full of remorse and upset it has all come to this. But I'm afraid it's too little too late and if he stayed she would erupt yet again as has happened so many times before. Like living with a timebomb you don't know when will explode.

Both he and Mr TA (who was waiting on standby when he was ready for departing) came back with cars packed to the gunnels. We now have boxes piled almost ceiling high upstairs and the garage stuffed with every tool you could ever need. There is more to bring back today (including a 50" tv) so heaven knows where all that lot will be stored!

To add to the chaos the 3 DGDs are here for tea, sleepover and school run both tonight and tomorrow night. Mince out defrosting to make a big lasagne for tonight. Then I am leaving them all to it and gadding off out!! It's my monthly meet up with the girlies for our wine and carvery evening and boy do I need some shoulders to cry on just now, as well as a few good laughs!

I have some trousers being delivered into our M & S today but really don't think I can be ar**d going down. So may leave them until tomorrow when we are out and about food shopping.

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Thinking of LAINEY and her DM, HILSTEP and all of you with worries. Take care all xx

    Congratulations to Coxy, well done.

    Thanks for the thread Gers.

My L&M has an ECG this morning, so we will see how that goes, I think the Dr scared the Bejeesus out of him so hopefully it will make him improve his diet, he's eating carp as he's depressed.

TA, I can't decide about retiring, I'd like to get out as work can be toxic, but worry about turning into an old lady over night.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Much cooler here today and quite blowy, off to work for me so at least it will be warm there.

Got a load of my xmas shopping done yesterday in fact I am more than 50% done will probably do a lot of the rest online so feel more organised now.

Sold out old coffee table last night we were going to dump it but I put it on FB selling pages and a woman bought it straight away, I've just about made all the money for the logs coming Saturday by selling old stuff this week :money:

Morning, thanks for the thread Gers xx

Thank you all so much for the job congratulations. I feel very blessed that I joined this forum when I did, as you have been so supportive to me, thank you xxx I think I'm still in shock at the job offer. I felt really out of my comfort zone yesterday, and almost talked myself out of the job during the afternoon when I was home. Amazing what a job offer can do to make you man up!

Today I am at knitting club (this will have to go, sob...) then I'm at the church. Will speak to the Minister today as he will be getting a reference request shortly. Tonight is DS2's expectations evening at school. DH was meant to be going, but he has a few meetings in London so may not be back. It will mean missing youth club, but I'm sure they will cope!

Washing to do before I go out, and some ironing to do later. Dinner is breaded fish, French fries, peas and sweet corn all from Aldi :)

Hugs and positivity to all those in need, particularly those who are poorly or who have poorlies xxxx

Hester, I am not convinced that retirement turns you into an old lady overnight, I reckon it takes at least a week.
