  • houbara, this was in the 80s, you put LOL but we were worried, partly they would think we had done something to the meter, and secondly we would end up wih a massive bill, it was a nighmare to sort out, they simly didnt believe us! But did you see my next bit, I was being chaged gas for a meter I DIDNT have! I was pregnant, and getting treats of debt collectors, I made BG come out and check, obviously they confirmed and I STILL got the bills!

Can you visit this website. It will show who the gas transporter believes is your gas supplier. If its coming up as BG then further steps are needed. You don`t want your credit history trashed.
meter running backwards in the 1980 s ! that really is rare. I have never seen one reversing without the assistance of a solar panel system on the roof. no solar panels around at that time.
Anyone with solar panels with a meter with a rotating ring, like Sangamo Weston analogue meters, it will run backwards on a sunny day when the electricity usage is low. It will be taking off last nights consumption. Amazing how many are still around. People do not want to give up this bonus. Double whammy in that it will also credit the FIT meter !

24 hours since my meters were installed. the electric is bang on, but the gas is showing £17.51 usage yesterday and already £3.91 today.

Where does the IHD get its usage figures from?

The meter provides the amount of energy used and the supplier sets the tariff information. My guess is that your new meters have yet to be registered with the supplier. This is not an instant process.

Sorry if this has been asked before SSE are offering to install a smart meter will this be a second generation smart meter as we understand first generation meter are not suitable for switching we haven’t switched but want to keep the option open

Possibly - you should ask them as there aren't many SMETS2 meters around but they should start to install them soon.

That's what supposed to happen but as the whole programme has been a total shambles who knows what is going on.

this was the plan earlier this year - dunno how well it's progressing though

The latest Govt SMETS1 stop date is the 5th December 2018. Up until this date, suppliers can count SMETS1 meter installs as part of their installation target. I was talking to Octopus last week and they expect to start rolling out SMETS2 meters in the South of the UK in early 2019. Meter installs in the Northern region are apparently on hold as technical issues are still to be resolved with the DCC's comms provider.

Am I right in thinking as consumers we have been paying for the DCC to be operated for some time not doing anything very much, and now they find parts of it wouldn't work if it was needed?

Wouldn't that - in the commercial world - normally result in a refund of part of the amount paid for the service?

I checked and actually got put through to the smart meter team and someone who knew what he was talking about (surprising these days)...

The IHD has a decimal point issue, so although my reading has been 0.064 , 0.067, 1.002, the IHD thinks it is 64, 67, 1002 and shows the usage based on that.

It is fixed in a firmware update that gets pushed out to the IHDs within 14 days of them being connected the first time, so just have to wait for that to happen.
  • Meter Accuracy and tolerance question

Hi, we have recently (July 2018) had a Smart Meter installed. We still have our own energy meter as well. We have witnessed, both instantaneously and over a number of weeks, a 10% difference (in favour of the supplier) in the readings. We are about to conduct some experiments to gather evidence to determine this. The meter is a Secure Liberty 100. The supplier does not want to discuss the operating tolerance of the meter. Has anyone else found inaccuracies like this please? Thanks

Welcome to the forum. What technical device are you using which shows that there is a 10% difference? All meters have to be certified for use in the UK before they can be used in the UK.
