I'd have done all but 1,7 & 9 myself or used another 'competent' person - nothing too taxing IMHO.

New consumer unit where I am runs at about £450 supplied & fitted

You need to get other quotes. That is the only way you will get an answer.

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘In my home’ board to the ‘Is This Quote Fair?’ board, where it is better suited.

That about the right price for London, item one will cost at least 1k, the rest his boy will do. Make sure he gives you the electrical certificate when done (and only pay him when you get it) as that goes with the house.

my understanding of item 1 would be they are fitting a single 10mm earth wire between the gas pipe and the water main. This would not cost £1000 or anywhere near. If they are close together it will cost very little. Item 7 looks like the big money item to me, probably about £300 to £350 in the north west, the rest look like small jobs. Trunking, sockets - at cost minimal, very easy to change / install.

Trunking ... very easy to ... install.
That will very much depend on whether these are uncontained non-sheathed singles or whether we are simply talking about a bit of overstripping of insulated and sheathed cables outside of enclosures/accessories.

If it is a complete containment system needed then there is substantial work (and cost) involved.

Mortgage-free Glee!
Can any spark tell the OP what can be done themselves or a handy DIYer . sockets and simple trunking I could do (not a spark) bonding earth that's already there is just chasing the 6mm around with 10mm . I personally wouldn't touch an rcd but that's an expensive price for whats needed (without seeing it) I bloke 2 days max .IMHO**..**= as a joiner

You probably couldn't do "simple trunking" if it needs to be a proper containment system suitable for non-sheathed singles and if galvanised providing an earth path.

Also "bonding earth" makes no sense - earthing and bonding are completely different things.

Items 2, 3, 4 5, 6 and 8 are all very simple DIY jobs ( although personally I hate trunking, better to take the time and do a proper job ). Ignore the posts from Risteard, he's ( apparently ) an electrician who tells us that the average Joe Bloggs is not qualified to change a light-bulb ( not the correct term, I know :rotfl:) or replace a fuse in a plug.

But most of these jobs are DIY items, or at worst a trivial job for a real sparky - I think your quote seems a little on the high side.
