I have the IKEA light that sort of looks like the death star. Saw it and though, I have to have it. Not sure if it will go in mine and the wife's room or my 3 years old boy's room...I have been undecided for over 12 months! lol

I've resisted an IKEA trip for months, I think I've just found a compelling argument to go now, lol.

Bought 25 replacement GU10 LED's from Home Bargains about 18 months ago for my Mum and not one has blown and light is nice & bright. Based on this I replaced 13 GU10 with LEDs in my bungalow, again from Home Bargains. I think they were £1.99 each.

Our house is filled with LAP bulbs from Screwfix; I've no complaints. I doubt no-name brands are going to explode, or burn your house down, but they might fail sooner than you'd like.

Then again, they might outlast their more expensive brethren - who knows.

I've stuck to Philips. Recently, our local B&Q were having a clear out of old stock so I ended up buying Philips bulbs at 3 for 2 (and each priced at £6) instead of paying the usual £10 for them.

I started with Philips but got BELL 7w dimmables with my new downlighting.

All IKEA lighting is switching to LEDs, and I have a few of their "bulbs" for table lamps which are very good.

I brought some from ScrewFix over the weekend, let's see how they perform. Could not find GU10 on IKEA's online store - they have similar styles in screw on ones, not sure if anyone other than IKEA does fixtures for those in the UK.

One other issue I have is the dimmable switches - previous owners of the place have gone to town with these - I hate these as they tend to blow up bulbs (dfimmabel variety), perhaps should replace the switches along with the bulbs too.

I get my 5W GU10 from Home Bargain. 99p each.
  • The best ones I've bought are from well-lit.co.uk. I've had some from LED but too bit they didn't work properly with my Lightwave dimmers (buzzing).
