My job is fantastic. I wouldn't change it for the world, even for something that pays more. I think I'll stick to my original thinking on this - crawl along at 20 mph and not take any chances.

How about just 'crawling along' at the posted limit and learning how to modulate throttle application and use the speedometer, just to save causing frustration to the thousands of other road users who don't seem to struggle with doing so?

I usually have my cruise control set to 54 (indicated 50 on the satnav), and I regularly get people overtaking me. If they were getting "nicked" by the cameras I doubt there'd be so many people doing it
On the M60 there is a stretch that has had average cameras at 50 mph for a long time now (10 years perhaps). Every time I drive through somebody speeds past, typically switching lanes. The cameras are all clearly marked, there are 50 mph signs through out and at the start there are large flashing 50 mph signs. Despite this, the cameras regularly show up in the top ten most profitable in the country - pulling in something like £350,000 a year.

I think people see others speeding and assume they don't work - when in fact they do!

The cameras were introduced after a series of fatal accidents at the same point.

You might be being facetious, but loads of people do this. They should have their driving licences cut up and put on buses driving at the posted limit.

Why would you want to put their cut-up driving licences on a bus?

The only average speed cameras on the M60 are those concerned with the long term road works. I think there's about 20 miles of them.

Many thanks for the replies.. Good news I didn't receive any NIP's!!!

Now for my next question for the Lanarkshire drivers,,

I was driving on the other side of this nightmare of a road the A8. They have closed the Newhouse slip and have a contraflow in operation to the chapelhall slip. They have 50mph signs and the also have "contraflow get in Lane max 30mph" signs. What signs do u obey the 30mph or the 50mph?? And are the cameras set to the 30mph or the 50mph?? I really hate these works. I just sat at 30 right through it to be safe

I'm guessing that the 50mph was in the standard red circle, but the 30mph signs were rectangles?

If that is the case then the legal limit is 50mph, however it is recommended to drive at 30mph because of the additional dangers present, in the same way that you often see speeds in rectangles before corners.

You will not get speeding tickets for driving at 50mph but, if you were to crash, your additional speed would not be seen favourably.

However also bear in mind that other drivers may wish to drive at 50 (the legal limit) and you will be holding them up - use your best judgement as to what speed to drive at.
  • Yeah the 30mph signs where big yellow rectangular get in lane signs, there were the circular 50mph to enforce the average speed. Was just unsure wether the average speed cameras had been lowered to enforce the 30 mph limit. Had a few cars flash me and toot as I stayed at the 30
