;71404327]Even more negligible (?) in practice, as the distance between lanes is only 3.65 metres.
Thanks. I guessed 5m.0 -

If you take a circular motorway route where the circle traced by the centre of lane 2 has a 50km diameter, and assume that the centre point of lane 1 going clockwise is 5m further out than lane 2 inside it, the difference in the circumferences of lanes one and two over a complete circuit of the motorway is pi times the difference in diameter (10m over the entire circle of motorway). In this case, lane one is 10m x pi longer than lane 2. About 31.4m, but that's over a distance of 157,079m. That's 0.02%
There's no need for any tolerance for curves when the distances between lanes are negligible compared to the radii of the curves.
Yes it is a very small amount over larger distances but on a short route the difference in length can actually be a full % point0 -
To get near 1% it would have to be an arc of a pretty tight radius, surely tighter than would be found on a motorway or any major road where average speed would be measured? By my calculations, the radius would have to about 370m if you stick to lane widths of 3.65m. That's quite a tight curve.Yes it is a very small amount over larger distances but on a short route the difference in length can actually be a full % point0 -
There's a load of average speed cameras on the M62 at the moment (road works). How many are fake? I think at least half of them are. Problem is, it's difficult to tell which are the real ones.
Driving in these areas is an absolute bloody misery, constantly having to check your speedometer and worrying whether or not your crept over the limit, and for how long.0 -
It is not that hard to stick to any speed limit whatever road it is on. You should always be occasionally glancing at your instruments as well. There's a load of average speed cameras on the M62 at the moment (road works). How many are fake? Buy a car with cruise control then if you find it that difficult to hold your foot still and occasionally check your speedo.0 -
