O/S Daily Monday 3 October 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now getting light, dry underfoot, but air is chilly, definitely starting to feel autumn is on it's way. Have a load to put out on the line, will do that shortly.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. Both boys still in bed, DS1 has a week's holiday this week and DS2 doesn't have to go to college on a Monday.

Lunch was a belated one with our friends as we all attended a caravan function and then they had booked a table at a pub/restaurant near where they live for Sunday lunch - we were booked for 3pm and it was still busy but food was good and a carvery, they do vouchers too, which our friends had managed to get 2 of, so we got 2 carveries for £12.95, they weren't massive plates full but by the time I'd eaten everything on my plate I'd had enough, will def keep that in mind as a place to go back to, and before we left they gave us another voucher.

Dinner tonight will be scampi, chips and peas for the menfolk, I'll have fish, jacket potato and peas/veg.

We were out all day yesterday and it was nearly 6pm by the time we got home, but we had a good day and it was most enjoyable.

Keep safe and well x

    Hi All

Hugs and positivity to all that need them - as always love and light to all in a dark place - keep going xx. Big hurrah to everyone sharing their good news and for those sharing sad news - I hope you're feeling a bit less raw today.

Oooh it's dark and crisp out there yet - but birdies are singing away. Will go out and litter-pick a bags-worth once it gets light. Household drudgery this morning - hopefully, paints out this afternoon.

Morning nmic  - that sounded like a good day for you yesterday - we went window-shopping for a new light fitting to replace the wonky one in our stairwell (rockstars lol!). The weather was gorgeous - hoping for the same today - lifts the spirits!

Hope your day is good xxxx

    Morning All

3rd day without rain (crosses fingers!), I'll put the washing out when it's light enough. Yesterday was glorious once the fog lifted and the washing dried well.

Collected my parcel yesterday and picked up a bracket for DDs curtain pole - it was the wrong colour! I put it up anyway and got the right one on my way home, I'll change it next time I'm there. DD made a lovely greek salad so all was good.

A full week at work, that's a novelty after two 4 day weeks, let's see what the little darlings can throw at us this week (actually, it's the parents who are worse!).

    Happy Monday. Take care. XX
  • Good morning all
Well back to work today for my first half day (got a month of them) after 4 weeks off. So know it's gonna be chaos. Not sure just why I convinced doc to let me go back now lol
Dinner was chicken roast last night so plenty of left over chicken for a pasta bake tonight.
Had DD1 and DGD round yesterday and she is growing up way to quick. Still a nannies girl though. Bless her she is nearly 3 but when we went out shopping she held my hand constantly and when we got to steps she was insistent that I hold onto the stair rail as she didn't want me to fall. She knows I am unstable on stairs.
    Anyhoo better get on
Hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Morning all
I got 3 loads for washing dry yesterday and my L&M and I went for a walk to the lock, there were quite a few boats going through.
My favourite is the guy that lives upriver on a boat with his wife and 3 or 4 children, they have a narrow boat with a butty (motor less boat) tied abreast (alongside), they have 5 bikes and 2 kayaks and a herb garden on the roof, and 2 rowing boats towed behind. They go to down river to Tesco's once a week on a Sunday to do their weekly shop.

It's time I fed the fish and set of for work.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning folks and profuse apologies for going AWOL all last week. I don't want to go into the reason here but it was a sh**e week and we now have DS back with us. I know he is 41 but he still my baby and I have so worried about him stuck in that volatile relationship with his psychotic partner.. There is no way back this time and he accepts that. He knows he is welcome to stay with usfor as long as he wants but he wants something to focus on and has spent the w/e looking at various accommodation options on the net.

He has quite a drive to and fro work from here and wants somewhere nearer. Meanwhile he will have to go back and get all his possessions out and stored here. That's planned for tomorrow and Wed morning so it looks like we will be living amongst piles of boxes for a while!

It was our wedding anniversary on Friday (44 years!) but it was just another day as neither of us felt in a celebratory mood amidst the ongoing drama. DD, bless her, brought us a lovely bouquet and a chocolate gateau. DS is working today so we are off to Skipton for a wander and a nice meal somewhere for a delayed treat! Lord knows, with the worry of Mr TA's illness hanging over us all this was the last thing we needed.

I have been thinking of the poorlies and worried on here and send virtual (((HUGS))) as usual.

Have a good day all. Good forecast for today with some sun, so hope it's the same where you all are xx

    Morning everyone,

Dry, bright and cold here today, we have had a slight frost overnight so the heating has kicked in again.

Am so sorry to read that you have had some family problems TA will keep fingers crossed for your DS that he finds somewhere new to call home, hugs to you x

Will crack on with clearing the washing this morning as we are due a dry day, have a shopping delivery coming this morning and once that has arrived will walk Tilly into the village to pick up some broccoli as have a hankering for some broccoli and blue cheese soup. It takes around 45 minutes so too far for Rosie.
This afternoon will go to visit Mum, if it's nice maybe we can sit outside :)

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Morning all, thanks for the thread nmlc xx That was a good deal on the carvery :)

TA - sorry to hear about DS. I hope he gets sorted out soon with his own place. Such a worry for you with everything else going on. Belated Happy Anniversary to you xx
LWW - hope your first day back goes well x

I got two loads washed and line dried yesterday. Will iron and put away after work this afternoon. DH is back late tonight.

In other news - I have an interview tomorrow morning for a full time position in central London eeeeeek! I have only told DH in rl as I don't want the embarrassment if nothing comes of it. I need to be at Baker Street for 9am so doubt I will be on here beforehand as I will need to join the died hard commuters aaargh! If you have any time, please can you send positive thoughts my way, thank you xxxx

Did anyone watch Strictly? I felt awful for Anatascia and wonder how she is going to cope going forward. Brendan is so competitive and will want to be lifting and throwing her about no doubt. I thought Ed Balls did really well - can't believe I'm actually warming to him, I'm still team Greg though despite his bottom!

  • Good luck for tomorrow COXY, hope all goes well for you.

Yes I too am a Strictly fan. I am for Team Louise but I do wish she would let Vicky Gill put her in something a bit more glamorous. I can understand her decision of not wanting to embarrass her family by wearing revealing outfits but something with a bit more shape wouldn't go amiss. She's a very pretty lady with a nice figure.

    Morning everyone.

The sky is streaked with reds and pinks, it looks really lovely though I have 'red sky in the morning' running through my head.

Just in I climbed into my pjs yesterday (fairly early) the farmers wife popped in with a huge piece of silverside for me. I've left it out overnight to defrost and will tackle it today. I've never cooked silverside before so will need to do some research first.

Last night I woke at 3am for a wee and was awake for over an hour afterwards. No idea why.

Coxy - my fingers will be crossed for you tomorrow. Good luck.

TA - good to see you back. You've got a lot of pressure on your shoulders so please take time for yourself too amidst all the dramas.

Today I'll be clearing the window ledges in anticipation of the window cleaner (maybe) calling round. The ledges are very deep so inevitably become dumping grounds, especially the utility room one. The spare bedroom one if full of unread books which I must cull.

Whatever you all do I hope it's a good Monday.

    Morning all,

Lovely bright day here have some washing on the go so will hang it out for a while today, was woken early by a delivery driver banging on the door like there was some kind of war going on ! He was a right grump as it took me a while to get something on and downstairs to answer, it was my log baskets so will get them in place and filled today.

Going to meet a couple of friends for lunch which will be nice, this afternoon I am coming home lighting the log burner and putting a film on, I am shattered after a long week at work so an easy afternoon I think.

Not sure about dinner but there is a pie in the freezer I think and loads of veg so we wont go hungry.

Need to have a clean through this morning and put loads of washing away.

Coxy good luck for tomorrow xx

    Have good days all xx
