Cheap flights mean money needs to be made somewhere - and excess baggage is a classic for it. And it's each way, remember. Considering how dear it can be (much more per kg than the stuff you're carrying) then it's worth just leaving some items out is a canny move.0

Another thing for the OP to consider especially travelling to the US, from experience most people will bring more back than they take, so will have a worse problem on the return journey if they don't reduce their baggage going out.0
