Airplane 23Kg allowed, but if 25Kg would the consider it, without charging ?

Delta airlines allowance of the suitcase weight (which they will check in, to go on the plane) is an allowance of 23Kg.
If you have 24Kg, or 25 Kg (even 26), are they likely to let it go, by being lenient and a good will gesture to allow the extra 1-3Kg allowance?
(without charging any extra allowance fee?)
I know this depends on how lenient and friendly the airport employee who checks you in is too.
(I know items can be shuffled to your hand luggage bag, but were just just curious to how lenient the airlines usually are, to that type of situation, to allow 1-3 kg extra, without charging, as a good will gesture)
What has been your experience ?
Have you done that? been over the weight by 1-3 Kg, and they have allowed you to get check that suitcase in, due to a good gesture ?

I've flown with Delta often enough to have had frequent flyer status with them, it'll depend on things like load factors and weather conditions on the day (cargo carried and cross winds expected for example) . Two kilos isn't a lot so it's usually easy to keep within the limits but there is always the possibility of getting told to lighten your bag which will mean leaving something behind or moving it into hand luggage. Probably not worth the faff unless you enjoy reapacking at the check in desk. Some trips no problems, others immovable too many variables to work out the odds really , especially as you've not mentioned routes or season which are pretty relevant. So on the info you've provided the answer is "maybe" which you already knew.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Why not just stick to the 23kg limit then you'll know that you won't have a problem?
If 999 people on here told you they 'got away' with 25kg, it doesn't mean that you will.0 -
That's a fairly generous allowance as it is at 23kgs (50lbs).
I suspect at 25kgs that you would be seen as being overweight and a charge made accordingly.
I was at 51lbs with them once and even than a comment made. I took something out of my bag to get under the allowance. This was however with a Delta curbside agent in the USA on a connection flight back to the UK.
Simple answer is that no one on here will know for sure if you will get away with more luggage weight than your allowance. You may, you may not - it will likely depend on the check in agent (or curb side one) and if that day at that time they are following airline policy.
If caught out be prepared to Pony-Up the extra fee for an overweight bag, or step out of line and repack before joining the queue again.0 -
I also think you would get charged, I have seen it many timestravelover0

Haven't flown by Delta, but many low costs airlines and somehow we always seem to get away with it! It's usually a case of a 20k limit and we're 21 to 23k over. Last time was this summer, 23.3kg, even hard to put a 'heavy load' sticker on it, the plane was full, but it went through both ways.
I was joking on another thread about this, but OH and I as well as the kids are very slim (just like to pack a lot!) so many that's why we get away with it!
There is one time when we were told we had to reduce the weight and we had to shift things in the hand bags, a bit of nightmare which made no difference to them in the end.
The only thing to watch though is that there are less and less attendant to check in and you have to go through machines which are not sway at all by the look of the beholder, even with a beaming smile, so if you are even 100g over, you can't check in.0 -

Airline limits - be it weight or size, hold or hand luggage - apply to everyone.0 -

Exactly if you know you are over the limit take something out or don't be surprised when they try to charge you, although you could wear the excess baggage to avoid fees;)
As the OP has already suggested, the best way round it is to transfer some into his hand luggage? Scheduled airlines I have flown with have generous allowances compared to the charter airlines. I have been asked to lighten my case by 2kg with Ryanair, no problem to transfer into the hand luggage, although I held up the queue for a short while.:(0 -
I have been charged by Delta for excess baggage.
Worst airline on earth for many, many, many reasons.0 -
We flew with KLM last month and bad packing on return trip meant we were unwittingly just over 25 with a 23 allowance. It's all automated in Amsterdam and no way were we going to be allowed it. One of the staff came over and seemed like she was about to waive things but then when she saw we'd hit 25 she said we had to take stuff out0

If it is 1 or 2 kg, I usually take out some heavy stuff and stick it to hand carry.0
