Best time to buy flights

I read on the main site that typically and I know it's not an exact science that the best time to buy flights are 53 days before you go. Well I need to go to Lanzarote on the 22nd December and come back on the 28th. I need to book soon as I need those specific dates so I’ve been looking over the weekend and todays (Sunday) prices are more expensive than yesterday. This has got me thinking and I have a question for the more seasoned travellers. I know that prices can change on a day to day basis but has anyone got any experience of price changes that change with the day of the week. For example are prices cheaper midweek then weekends and are certain times of the day cheaper, for example early morning rather than early evening. I've got 4 people to pay for so it could make a difference.
Thanks for reading!

Sadly, for a flight at Christmas the best time to buy flights was several months ago.

For a random date it may be good advice to sit it out and wait but a flight to Lanzarote on these dates will just continue to climb so buy ASAP.

Demand gets in the way of price reductions, so the only way is up.

Btw Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are connected by a ferry service https://www.fredolsen.es

If you can go in the evening of the 21st, you could overnight somewhere and then get the next flight in the morning, ie LON-MAD-ACE.
Kayak and kiwi can be useful, select one stop and adjust the departure time for the evening. If you don't book a through ticket there's a risk.

Thanks Richard but I've now booked.
I used Kayak and the outward flight was quite hefty but the pain was lessened by the inward flight that was in comparison quite cheap for that time of year.
Some useful lessons have been learned. :)
  • Really.

Just booked to Florida for Christmas, £284 each return. It was about £500 a couple of weeks ago.

    Presumably you didn't though.

Well it's approx. 53 days before we go and so I checked the current price against what we paid and it's about 9% (£30) per person cheaper. There's 3 of us going so would've preferred to have saved £90 but not too bothered as I would have had the uncertainty of the unknown for the last 4 weeks.
