Unadopted road

I grew up on an unadopted private road that was also a commuter rat run.
as the commuters were charged for using it, maintenance costs were never a problem.
I quite enjoyed helping out collecting the threepences (or whatever it was).
In your case, only the Title documents can tell you what rights you have over the road, and what obligations too.
The East/West German border hardly qualifies as typical!0 -
My childhood was atypical in oh so many ways......0

I don't doubt it. But what is the road makeup/ trafficking and requirement?0

Thanks for the replies. Did anyone have issues with things like street lighting or for gas and electricity pipes as I have heard that if they need fixing it becomes the owners issue?0

A statutory undertaker has a responsibility to reinstate properly and maintain their asset.
That doesn't always mean their sub-contractor ( And you can guarantee it will be subbed out ) will.
I'll happily provide the standards. They won't be met.0 -
In my road - there is the normal utilities - like dustbin men, post people, Council responsibility for lighting, water pipes are the Water Companies responsibility in the road - as is the phoneline, gas and electric.0

Sometimes Councils will surprise the locals by adopting and repairing un-adopted roads.
Tendring DC took such action in Jaywick after filmcrews filming a series on pople on benefits filmed there.
Seriously though, the op does need to seak proper guidance on this particular road. S/he may find there is already a committee in place that collects a monthly fee from each resident towards the road's on-going upkeep.Never Knowingly Understood.
