I open it up and if it smells ok and tastes ok then it probably is ok.I am a great believer in the power of my nose when it comes to consuming things.BBd and use before wasn't heard of when I was a young sprog and I'm still around
:)
Resort to your 5 senses: does it look ok? Does it smell ok? Take a sip; does it taste ok? Does the carton feel ok eg not "blown"? Does the colour look ok?
In true MS style, I do not throw things out until I have judged them the old fashioned way (not the EU imposed way).Nothing against the food regulations, they have their place and rightly so. But, I know from experience that they err on the side of caution (not a bad thing, but can confuddle folk).
Test it; make a judgement call0 -
Okay, thanks everybody.0

.......if it seems ok as per the advice above, but you're still a bit iffy about drinking it, give it a good boil-up in a pan, then use it to make up a jelly for dessert or to make a trifle or to steep dried fruit for fruit loaves/cake.0

Bronnie - Thanks for the extra idea about boiling first.0

Hi everyone after some help please as I am still quite new to buying oppsies and reduced food anyways today I found. 2x milks,Mussels,4xpacks of sliced chicke,a shoulder of lamb, and a phesent as well as a few other bits. Anyway we are eating the lamb tomo but the rest I have put in the freezer. It says it's best before the 27th of dec but if you freeze it is that still the case? As they all say you can freeze them then use them a month after dose that mean the best before date does not matter I hope i have made sense?February GC £261.97/24 NSDS 10/12

They'll be absolutely fine frozen, but make sure once defrosted you cook and eat ASAP.0

I bought 2 chickens (whoopsied) on Wed, sell by date that day. I cooked them straight away and put them in the fridge when cool. We ate the last of the cooked chicken today, heated in sauce to boiling point for a couple of minutes then baked in a pie for about 25 mins in a 180 deg oven.
Was I pushing my luck? I kind of figure that cooking puts the bacteria count back to zero and gives me another few days. Is that nonsense?! Thanks in advance!0
