  • Re ATOL protection: the temporary extention to Monarch's ATOL expires at midnight on 12 October. We fly back on the 15th. I understand that if their ATOL isn't renewed, we'll get flown back. The question is: in such an instance are we obliged to take whatever flight time they offer; e.g. late at night? We paid extra to get flights at mid-day.

    Seriously??
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Yes. We're not talking about a medevac from a warzone. This is a consumer rights question within the context of a commercial failure within Europe.

Must admit that my initial reaction was similar to Moto2's, but in the spirit of being nice to those who aren't regular posters, you would be pretty much obliged to take what you are offered, unless you want to make your own arrangements at your own cost.

The CAA's responsibility is to allow you to complete your holiday and get home, i.e. not be stranded, the finer details of exactly when your original flight departed will not be the top priority. That said, in a case like Monarch when they know it's coming, the rescue flights will be ready and they will utilise as many of the Monarch slots as they can.

No guarantees though, you can ask what the choices are but if you decline the repatriation you will likely be on your own. They would definitely consolidate some flights from destinations with a lot of flights (eg Palma, Tenerife), as some of the aircraft currently chartered for these flights are way bigger than anything Monarch has.
  • Thanks SW17. I hesitated asking the question given the circumstances would not be normal (e.g. fog), but I try to be savvy about my rights when forking out hard-earned dosh, and am all too familiar with being fobbed off by organisations who expect customers not to know their rights.

I wish the Monarch staff well, as they have far more at stake than me.

    How very melodramatic

    Let's hope it doesn't happen but ....

Given that they had been flying in 747s for the repatriation, don't you think, they have enough problems getting people back to their home airport without pandering to petty requests for a particular take-off time?
You could well end up the other side of the UK and bussed home from there, no idea home that'll work out with your consumer rights

Maybe MSE should see if the event will take place, rather than speculation and causing worry for no reason to consumers?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

A few of my friends are booked on a flight going out on 13 October (back on 16th) early in the morning. Will all flights be cancellend if they don't get their finances sorted by the 12th?

Thanks MSE for putting a post on facebook yesterday!
