You're the exception that proves the rule.

Well, I did sort of get the car by accident which might account for it :)

Funny thing happened on a recent trip to Warrington though. We were bimbling along around about the speed limit, overtaking and moving left when appropriate (but not weaving in and out at very gap) - using indicators correctly as we went.

After a few miles I noticed that the 3 cars behind us were 2 BMWs and an Audi and they were ALL following our lead! Using indicators, not hogging lanes but not cutting in too close either, and all sticking "around about" the limit.

Can't help wondering if the people we were passing must have thought that 4 well behaved cars, in a row, of those marques was some sort of Clarksonesque stunt :D

Probably the best thing that could of happened to me as it told me to stop being such a ******* prat for the rest of my driving career.

17 is 17 though and only time really teaches you.

Well done to her for passing though.

They were unmarked police cars trailing you and the DRIVERS were wondering if you were on drugs?
;71382680]I believe there is only one road in the UK with a 70 sign. No doubt others will disagree.
The M8 and all other Scottish motorways I have driven on have 70mph speed limit posted rather than NSL.

Any other tips on what I should be saying to her?

Tell her to assume that everyone else on the road is an idiot, because one day she'll be right.
I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.

Always drive at a speed that allows you to stop in the distance that you can see. After all you can go around that blind bend at 60mph, but you have no idea what you're going to find.

Motorways should not have NSL signs. They have their own legislation for signage. Although they tend to get used in road works because the road working companies don't have '70' signs as a rule.

There is only a requirement to have speed limit signs at entrances to motorways so you will normally only see them at the start of the on ramps.

How on earth do you equate a P plate with someone only passing as a fluke?
How will other drivers take advantage? If they don't get into silly head to heads, that can only be a good thing.

    lister summed this up.

Would agree with Lee. As a driving instructor I always advise my students not to put P plates on.

If you saw both how badly (and dangerously) many drivers act around learners, and how overly considerate many others are (equally problematic), you would understand why.

Might as well put a massive sign on the roof saying 'treat me like dirt I am a newbie'.

I wouldn't agree it says you passed by chance, but I get what was meant. Typically people who put P plates on are those who are not the most confident of new drivers. By putting them on, you get carved up even more than average, therefore helping to perpetuate any lack of confidence.

Sadly, life on the roads can be something akin to life on the savannah as a wildebeest or gazelle, and putting a big advert up saying you may well be one of the weaker members of the herd isn't really a smart thing to do in my book when the lions and hyenas (usually in the guise of BMWs and Audis) are prowling. Hide amongst the masses and gain experience is the way to go.

Consider getting some additional lessons for motorway driving.

If not remind her to keep left unless overtaking, middle lane hoggers are a menace and contribute considerably to congestion. Similarly when following vehicles on a single carriageway and don't fancy overtaking yourself, leave sufficient space infront so if someone else behind you wishes to they can overtake one car at a time rather than 2.

The entrance of every motorway in England and Wales subject to NSL limit that I have driven on has a NSL sign, not a 70 sign. They use NSL because the limits are different for different classes of vehicles.
