Sim Card for Old Nokia

My daughter has found an old phone in a drawer and we managed to find the charger. It works, but there is no sim in it.

Can I just go anywhere (like Tesco) and get a sim for it? I've always had a contract phone, so don't know about just buying the cards for them.

Do I have to get a monthly deal or a payg? Seeing as there's no internet on the phone, I won't need any data for it.

Yes Tesco PAYG is a good one as credit is never cancelled. 3 is cheaper though.

  • I've found a BT one that says it is £5 a month. Unlimited texts and 200 minutes. Don't need 500mb of data. How do I know it will fit the phone? Are they all standard?

No there are 3 different sizes. Old Nokia is most likely standard SIM

The only issue is that it maybe locked to one of the 4? networks.

Can she remember what network it was last used with ?

Order something like this or this and select standard sim if asked.

The phone is probably 2G only so the network 3 isn't an option.

Very good point. I have no clue. The phone could be anyone's. Mine (although I don't think so), my ex who used to live here, one of our lodgers, my brother (who also used to live here). Gees, just made me realise how many people have lived in my house since I bought it!

I might go to a phone repair shop near my mum's and ask them what they think to do. My daughter is only 7, so it was an idea cos she found the phone. I won't be buying her any decent phone till she starts secondary school.

Get free PAYG on line sim from Adsa,Tesco,& Talkmobile [all of them, no cost to you]

Between them they piggy back on either EE, O2 & Vodafone networks so hopefully one will work in the phone

They come in all sizes in same pack, guess you will need the old large one

Try each one in the phone and see what one works by it indicating the network on screen, like Asda

It will say no sim or suchlike if not suitable sim

If you are lucky it will be Asda 'cos it comes with some free calls / texts already on it

Think about a phone that supports 3G, but is cheap at £14: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lebara-KAZAM-Life-B5-2-4-Inch-3G-Mobile-Phone-Black-/351702994899
Apparently only issue is that it doesn't have predictive text. So she'll need to be able to spell on her own ;)
This will give her the option of using Three's 321 or Data Reward SIM
