Excessive Early Termination fee

Options
I just found out my son has received a letter regarding a Vodafone account of his. I am fully aware he has messed up big time, but the amount due is £990.25, of which £232.47 is outstanding call charges, and the remaining Early Termination Fee is £757.78. I understand that there should be a fee to deal with this, but a charge of over £700 seems very excessive. Is there any advice anyone can give me about dealing with this. I especially want to find out what his contract states. If he gives me authority, can we ask for a copy of the contract and all paperwork concerning the account. Any advice would be greatfull received

How long remaining on the contract and what is the monthly fee ??
Fee is usually the balance owed on the remaining months of the contract .

If early termination fee is that high it sounds like he's cancelled in the first few months of a 24 month contract, or was paying a huge amount for a top end phone each month!

A combination of both I would guess. It's going to be an expensive lesson for son/parent.

It's as simple as monthly line rental x months left, you should be able to work it yourself from that and see if it's correct or not...

Does the termination fee include VAT?

It shouldn't, last time I saw the ETC mentioned for Vodafone it was the line rental outstanding for the remainder of the contract, excluding VAT, and less a 2% rebate.

It's just easier to say months x rental to get an approximate fee...
