CPW and unlocked phones

If you REALLY need a quick phone due to dropping your regular phone and want to just drop in your sim card, you can buy any PAYG phone from CPW and their phones will be unlocked. They just wont tell you.

If you tell them you want an unlocked phone the staff will become Stasi and refuse to sell you a phone. Happened to me twice in 2 stores.

I wanted a £100 smart phone while my daily phone got repaired. It was like getting blood from a stone.

I ended up buying one from Amazon due to CPW staff lack of coherence.

The PAYG but unlocked phones are subsidised. The sim free/unlocked phones are not subsidised and likely have higher profit margins. Therefore as soon as you give the impression you have no intention of using the PAYG sim, they will try and direct you to the sim free/unlocked models.
