Funny problem with Citroen Cactus

A friend had a 2.0 Hdi Xsara which had very tall gearing. It suited the car but it was odd using third gear at 35-40. If yours does a theoretical 151 in fifth that suggests tall gearing.I don't really want to be driving in 4th gear at 50-60mph.
This depends entirely on the car. You should use whatever gear the engine will pull without labouring the engine. When you are labouring the engine you are using more fuel than needed for that engine speed so a lower gear giving a higher engine speed will be no less economical and kinder to the engine. My driving instructor advised me to change into 5th at about 40mph on the flat.0 -
I'll assume you have a rev counter? What does it read when you have the problem?0
