Uninstalling norton

Do you still need the Norton removal tool to get Norton off your PC? I ask because according to its instruction manual you just uninstall it the same way you do anything else. Also when I looked up Norton removal tool it states that it uninstalls and then reinstalls. Well I don't want that, I want it off. I am going back to the security I used to use.
Can anyone tell me the best procedure to follow without putting my system at risk to remove Norton and replace it with my new security?

  • Download the removal tool, download your new A/V . Disconnect from the Internet run the Norton Uninstall, then install the new(old) A/V

It doesnt re-install, but it wont clear all the junk out either unless you get the uninstaller mentioned above.

Comes to something when you have to use a separate uninstaller after uninstalling it already. One reason to avoid Norton.

norton, mcafee, avg and avast all have uninstall tools. A-v tends to hook deep into a system so the extra tools are needed to save leaving any hangovers ;)

    Alternatively :)

I think the Norton tool these days is more for a damaged or failed install according to their bumf but it's really something I avoid, well like a virus.

No harm in running the uninstall tool just don't reinstall.

Oh and make sure you reboot before trying to install another security solution.

Depends on how much of norton you want to remove. If you want to uninstall it then click uninstall.

If you want to clean your system of it then get the removal tool AFTER you have uninstalled it.

Oh, !!!!!!!!! to remove norton PROPERLY, use the normal uninstall then run the removal tool. The tool tells you you need to reboot once it's finished it's run. It DOES NOT tell you to reinstall or reinstall for you

cheers, i am a bit worried about being advised to not even download ready(not install) the new security. doing that will mean opening a web browser and hoping i can download it after norton is gone. should i turn on the windows firewall once norton is gone?
