    Sad for you.
I also need help and advice if anyone can...please read...
I recently bought an item advertised on eBay. Seller told me to PayPal payment.... I didn't worry as have used it a lot and know about their guarantee...
He didn't post item and then said his eBay was hacked...and PayPal...which the cash then went into a second PayPal account... I have his eBay I.D and email... His PayPal email and his mobile phone number... Both people on emails say a different name and they were hacked...how can two ebayers be hacked for same item?! He has blocked my number so I can't call him. Ebay, PayPal and police won't help. I have seen him advertise the same items three times...I placed a bid of £5000....prob only worth £30 item...but I was outbid...so surely a fraud as I didn't get a complaint about my bid. He just took it off sale again.
Since found out it was friends n family n not covered.
I worry for all other innocent victims like me not knowing this info. Feel ashamed
    What's the issue here?

You say you were outbid, so you didn't buy anything, so what have you paid for?

    How much have you paid?
You paid using 'friends and family' on an ebay purchase?

"He has blocked my number so I can't call him..." - what a feeble excuse.
Do you not know anyone else with a phone that you could use?

Oh... and this post would be better placed on The Ebay Board.
  • Hi
Thank you for reading and replying...
I paid £250 for the item....paid thru PayPal...it had been taken off eBay.

The bid I talk of is when he put his items back on eBay...one mine and the other worth about £30. So..I bid high - £5000...obviously without intention to buy...and was outbid. Hence proving he was unscrupulous. He has advertised them a third time too so there are possibly other buyers he has scammed as they always had bids in and then disappeared.
He did reply to my texts thru the transaction...so I have proof where he says he will and did post my item. Then when I realised his theft we exchanged some texts where he also said he would give the money back so I have some sorts of evidence...and two email addresses and names he has given me.
I explained this dodgy seller to eBay and PayPal and they don't want to know.
It is not a feeble excuse to not use a friends phone..I already feel crap enough.... I don't want the thief to know any phone numbers so he can't bother them.

I only joined here yesterday and have no clue where or what the eBay board is. Am still learning
  • How did you pay through Paypal? I think you are saying that you used the gift option rather than for goods/services.

If you did send by gift, then you cannot reclaim your monies through Paypal.

So you paid £250 to someone as a gift through PayPal for an item that had been removed from ebay?.

EBay specifically tell you not to do this because of the risks involved and it's just asking for trouble, so I'm not surprised they arnt interested when you complain to them about it.

Also if you want to contact the seller again then you can just withhold your number when you call. This usually works because not many people block withheld numbers.

For future reference when buying goods you should not send the payment as a gift.

Apart from the suggestion by takman, another option is to wander down the high street and most phone shops will give you a payg sim card - even all the supermarkets sell payg sims for £1 or less.

Click on the link in my earlier post and you'll find it. :D
  • Hi
    Thanks for replies...

Unfortunately I did not understand the gift option at that time. All I knew that paying with PayPal came with money back guarantee if you bought something and they didn't send it. So thought that was covered.
Also didn't understand much about taking it off eBay... I just thought that was normal as they were not going to keep it on auction as I had placed an offer. I had to ask seller what to do so followed his lead as I couldn't find how to pay on eBay.
Obviously now I know and is an expensive lesson.

Am concerned because I told eBay about the fraud...and him keep listing the same items ...and most likely doing it to others...and they didn't even want to know or look into. How many more people he can do this to?!

I do have a gripe with police system though.... It would take them a matter of minutes to check this with his phone number...his emails...the proof on my messages of him agreeing to the sale, sayin it was posted and also sayin he would pay me back. To find out if his accounts were actually hacked as he said. Which is lies,

    As I say. Lesson learnt
