Bill Splitting for House Shares

Hello,

I was wondering if there are any Landlords or Letting agents on here who have used Bill splitting services or Utility set up services for your properties?

What is your opinion on these? For example BillHub, Glide..

Thanks

  • Why would a landlord care what a tenant does with their utility bills? It literally has nothing to do with them.

Peace of mind that your tenants have got everything set up? Especially for house shares for Students or Young Professionals?

Again, why would the LL care ? If debt accrues it's nothing to do with them...

They're renting their property out to grown adults not children. If they don't have the confidence said adults can split bills they've probably got the wrong tenants.
  • From a (former) tenants perspective I'd be very annoyed if my LL was attemping to force some website to split bills on me.

Yes, you would think that's the case, but its hard to tell.

But so what? If the tenants want to balls everything up, then on their head be it.

Who is paying for all this? I note Billhub claim they have no fees. How do they afford their swanky offices in Shoreditch? I suspect they will be in cahoots with an expensive energy provider (someone like the awful awful Spark), who will give them kickbacks.

In any case it's all so stupid - restricting tenants energy supplier would be considered an unfair term even if there weren't legislation. But, lo and behold, it is mandated - tenants can choose whomever they want to supply them with energy.

    But again,you're missing the point.

As a landlord i don't care if the bills are being paid or not. I have zero liability, nada.

The debt is the tenants individual problem not mine.
  • I was thinking more about creating a good impression with new tenants and helping their move into your house easier.

Argh. It's not your house - it's their house! Would you tell your tenants to use vodafone? Or shop at Aldi? It really is no different.
