Wish to cancel VM contract - will I get credit back

Hi,

Just got a letter for VM that prices will increase, so I have the right to cancel. Now VM has had high utilisation issues and have credited me and I have paid line-rental up-front, if I cancel, should I get the credit back and partial line-rental up-front?

Kind regards

    You won't get LR back.

    Unsure of the other credit.

If you do, you usually get a cheque 1 month after the "service" is disconnected

No not yet, I am not sure if I want to stay with them. They have really high utilisation issues and this has been ongoing for months, they'll just keep giving me new dates when this gets fixed. Lots of topics about their high utilisation issues.

As a uni student and developer I can't really do with speeds on 0.5MB even though they have credited me for months.. :)

Part of the advanced LR deal is that it's non refundable.

Have a go though as its their fault

If they have given you credit against your bill because of issues you have and continue to be suffering in the future, it doesn't seem likely they will give it to you if you leave as you will no longer be having those issues going forward.

The LR may well be a different issue but you won't know until you speak to them.

When Sky took over O2's broadband and people moved their line too Sky from BT (to have both with same provider) there were posts on here about getting back pre-paid line rental.

The agreement is a cheaper rate in exchange for early payment and t&cs say there is no refund, but I believe some people were able to obtain a one, but don't recall details as it didn't affect me, being at the end of a contract minimum term, at the time.

The answer I got from VM on the advance line rental question when I was thinking about quitting after their last price hike was a definite NO - the line they were sticking to was that there's a 14-day cooling off period, after that, if you leave, it's tough.

I had started to escalate it, but had to abandon it when I found out that I'd been given duff info on alternative BT-based services. Basically I'm stuck with VM and whatever price hikes they throw at me, unless I'm willing to drop from a 50Mb service to an average of 3Mb.

Having said that, I was seriously considering escalating it to Ofcom if /when they rejected my complaint on the grounds of an unfair contract. You never know, if you kick up enough fuss they might give in ...

I rang them threatening to cancel they took the £3.49 of for 6 months, mind you if I keep having issues I'll claim credit back :)
